**7210 Warning !**
I know this goes against the grain a little but I took a 7210 on Orange to a Nokia Service Centre for a software upgrade to 4.18.
Here's the problem..... after the flash neither the ringer or the headset would ring !!! So new phone from Orange and away we go again! Proved the phone would ring to the engineer..Flashed with the 4.18 software...NO RINGER again. This time the service centre admitted they had incorrectley flashed the phone with the wrong voltage and destroyed the power amp !!!! Another phone on its way. Apparently the service centre hadn't been informed that the phone had to flashed at 4v instead of 12v ........Yeah right! Just be careful who you trust with your phone, the 'experts' can make mistakes too!

mcu is like the main program for the phone, ppm is the language package for the phone, in all the DCT3 phone and 8310, 6510 and 8910 etc.
but in series 40 nokia mobile phone, we have another file call content package which contain the image, polyphonic ringtone, game and application. |

Yes the service centre is an official authorised nokia service centre.....
I guess the engineer just got it wrong or wasn't trained fully on the 7210 or the equipment he was using..... Still it makes you wonder....

hello guys.. i'm new here.
i've upgraded my 7210 to v4.18 recently, all went well except i noticed a little bug.... if you assign a different ringing tone to a caller group instead of 'Default', your phone will not light up when you receive a call from the caller group's member. it's not a big deal, but its annoyying coz i can see who's calling and i have to press something to make it light up. im sure i didnt experience this problem in v3.09. is this a problem in v4.18 or is it my phone? |

With all this talk of flashing v4.18, it may be of interest to some/all that my 7210 (T-mobile) came with v4.24 (09-01-03) powering it.
So far it has behaved impeccably (despite being dropped in a bowl of water), unlike my 8310, even with v5.8 on it! KC |

Yes my 7210 came with that software version too. The reason for this is, T-mobile launched the phone and were very unhappy with the software so they withdrew the phone for 4 weeks and told nokia to get it`s finger out. so obviously they happy with the software now as they released it.

Glad to report that my 7210 running v4.24 DOES INDEED LIGHT UP when a contact with an assigned ring calls me. Not had ANY problems so far (but it’s only been a month). KC |

Thanks for the info Klarky Cat. I sent my 6610 to Nokia's care centre here and they upgraded the firmware. It solved the earlier problem, the phone sometimes hanged when I used wap over GPRS. But like vip3r there was another bug. The Nokia folks here have no clue if a new firmware has been released, much less when Singapore will get it. Guess I'll just have to wait.

does 6610 have a 4.24 firmware? i'm planning to go to singapore to have my phone upgraded, 'coz here in my country, there's no official nokia care center (philippines), how much does it take to upgrade 6610 in $? and where in singapore?

I am an engineer in one of the Nokia Service Centres, and after you flash with PHOENIX and FLS4s you cant go wrong as most of it is automated, anyway after flash the wavetek should have failed on the audio loop test. Strange

I took my Nokia 7210 to CarPhoneWareHouse UK/London/ Oxford street Service center near to Tottenham Court Road!
ive asked them if they do software upgrade to N7210 v4.18, and the answer was yes!! so i give me phone and waited for 3 hours!! When i went back, they phone was ready! I didnt exit the service center, i decided to check it! Only to find i still had the old version v3.09!!! and everything was deleted!! I told em, it wasnt upgraded!! the man told me to wait 10minutes and took my phone again!! after waiting nearly 25 minutes! he came back only to tell me they didnt even have the software v4.18 aftera all, and said they were downloading it!!! the time was about 6pm, they told me to come back tomorrow! At the end of the day! they wasted nearly 4 hours of my time! and also i dont know what the hell they used to flash/upgrade my phone!!!! but thank god it still works!! Becareful Peeps!! |

Hello
I am glad to found a thread where asians participate. I have a different problem here. living in thailand, here are no data cables available for pop-port Nokia's, Nokia simply doesn't import it and the copycats aren't up to speed. I have a 6610, v 4.18. No problems beside that the light doesn't come on when someone from a caller group rings, but i can live with that. the phone runs stable, don't want to flash or mess with the OS. Now, my boyfriend got a 7250, also the asian version. It's got a ringtone, called "Acceleration". I want this ringtone in my 6610. Now, as we don't have a chance to get it hooked up with the PC (no IrDA either), no go with that. Someone in UK was so nice to send me a package with all ringtones of 7250 there, but they're different! Aaaargh. Now, here are people from SG i've seen.... And apparently Nokia engineers Can one of you be so kind and waste 3 minutes for me..? Please, just copy that "Acceleration" midi file of an asian 7250 and send it to me at boythanh@hotmail.com .... thanks a BILLION for that! Best regards from Bangkok... your Thanh
