can i use this in installing softwares or just for transferring files?? w/c is faster ir or the data cable??

The IrDA standard supports speeds up to 4 Mbps. But the hardware in the commy only supports speeds up to 115.2 kbps.

Yes you could use this to to intall software, but personally I would get a usb mmc reader instead, it will be much faster if you used one of those.

Both the cable and infrared have the same maximum speed of 115k
