I am strongly considering buying this clip, and will anywhays, but I wonder if the connectors that come with it are usefull in other situations... I saw nokia DEJAN and MBUS cables that have a similar ending to the ones that come with the unlock clip and I assumed one is a male connector and the other female, but am I right? If so, what kind of cable and software would I need to

1) Unlock (optional)
2) Flash software (upgrade/downgrade)
3) Change IMEI (if possible)

What other things could I possibly do with any other cable/software pair? Excuse my lack of knowledge, but I'm rather new to unlocking, but have learned quite a bit from these forums! Also, has anyone dealt with www.hkgsm.com ? They seem to have great prices compared to other places... Any input is apreciated

From what I read, an MBUS cable will do for flashing/unlocking/imei repair. Eepromtool 3.1, nk_calc are two tools I read about that are able to change IMEI - which is "better"? What does each support? Are there others? And what is an FBUS cable used for? What about any software to flash upgrade/downgrade nokia phones?

Hi there... hope this will answer some of your Q...

First of all i would recomend building your own cable, atleast for DCT3 phones - dont know how ??? see the schematic/guide by me - you can download it from my DCT3 site (http://dct3.m-c-u.dk) - you can also download the progz you need

Also I would recomend you to read the "basic" tutorial as this will answer some of your Q...

You will need both a Data and a flasher cable to do the specific operations you seek...

A few notes on different cable types:

Mbus: is a half duplex, 2 way serial bus, and are the most commonly used Data cable...

Flasher cable: uses paralell comunication and are used for upgrading SW and Reading/writing edited ver. to phone...

Fbus: is full duplex seriel comunication with a RX and TX line this eliminates the need for start stop and parity bits during comunication...

All you need to unlock DCT3 phones is a Mbus cable and "Eprom tools"

To change Emei you will need a Mbus cable and Noktool 18 by rolis - use this prog as it also changes the "original EMEI" stored in the eprom aswell - but X-or'ed by 65....

To upgrade/downgrade you will need flasher and a mbus cable...
Software needed Rolis Flasher 4.77 (for flashing) and "KNOK" to "quick set FAID"

But just take a look at my site - theres all the toturials you will need to do theese things... (only for DCT3)

Wow! Thanks a million dr.bizar! You helped me very, very much with all that info. I would still need the clip to unlock though, as it does DCT4, and it's portable... On top of that, perhaps I'll find an extension cable turning the connectors into mbus/flash cables so I wouldn't have to shell out alot ;)

One more thing, I came across these two cables, a Cable flasher for Nokia (Dejan) http://www.hkgsm.com/en-gb/p_107.html

which looks like it would interface with the connectors that come with the DCT4/3 clip. Is this adequate for upgrading/downgrading/changing things? (flashing in general as I understand it now)

There is also a cable they call 100% mbus cable that has the exact same ending (as far as I see it) as the flasher cable
http://www.hkgsm.com/en-gb/p_510.html
I assume it's good for unlocking/imei change, but I want to make sure...

Also, are there many versions of the clip? Because the one here
http://www.hkgsm.com/index.html?target=p_698.html&lang=en-gb
states it has 8 cables, although I can only see 7, and states that it can unlock far less models than the one here (DCT4-3 clip, second one)
http://www.irwebonline.com/acatalog/Mobile_Phone_Unlocking_Solutions.html
even though they look identical. Could this be a typo? Should I contact them? I probably will, but I'd like someone's opinion too
