Nokia 3310 convert to 3330. yes impossible but see this!

I found this syte that says it is possible to convert 3310 to 3330 but only to newer 3330 version. dont understand right, but it is interesting. See the Link and give your opinion.

pretty weird though, I mean how about the flashmemory. The 3310 has 16mb memory and 3330 32 mb flashmemory. So i don't think it would be possible without any hardware modification.

I think it is supposed to read:

Nokia: 3310 to 3315, 3310 to 3330 (only newer 3310's only!), Nokia ....

as I have heard that some of the newer 3310s have 32mb flash memory or whatever the usual difference is.

I just got hold of a pretty new 3310 and I made a backup of my own 3330 and tried to flash it into the 3310 but no luck. So...

mmm.. flash are 2MB and 4MB.. 16 and 32 are MBits (i think)!! :grin:
i tried to flash on my 3310 a 3330 flash but it doens't work.
it is a newest 3310 (october 2k2)

A friend of mine who works with cellphones told me that there were one or two shipments of 3310s from Nokia that actually were 3330s downgraded to 3310s because they didn't have enough 3310s when that shipment was supposed to be sent.

You read the original full flash of 3310 using 3330 after you download to 3330 phone and calculate...

Flashing what you've read will only get a 3310 (no conversion done). What we're talkin' in here is that a 3310 converted to 3330.

I believe it's on the hardware.

I live in north east england and I have seen but 2 of these downgraded 3310s, however this was some time ago possibly 3-4 months. back in those days I was still using partial flashing and noticed that the flash information showed a 32mb flash. bieng the gung-ho kinda fella that I am, I backed up the 3310 fls, and proceeded to flash the phone with a 3330 v4.12 flash file, the result?

on.... Beep....(battery bar).....MEEEEEEP!!!....reset....CONTACT SERVICE.

you also see sometimes that the newer 3310s have a much better contrast screen (ultra-twist instead of super-twist) just like the 3330s, you will notice also that they can refresh quicker.

i believe too that some 3330's are downgraded to 3310 in factory.
i saw one 3330, but, when i took battery out, it said 3310 in the sticker.
but can't remember that imei, i wrote it down and compared to some 3310 & 3330 imei's, and it really was 3330 imei.
too bad i didn't get ability to read that flash then.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the 3310/3330 debate, but my 3310 has as many keypad contacts on the PCB as my 3410. (I couldn't resist, just HAD TO take them both apart! :) ). Does that mean anything?

I'm not sure where to look for memory size information either. How do I check that using Rolis, Knok etc?

your observations are correct, the 3410 has the same amout of keys on the board, however the flash is bigger and the 3410 supports GPRS. theres a big debate on another thread about whether a 3330 could be made to support GPRS, as far as i know this cant be done with software, unless anyone can correct me?

well, you're almost correct but 3410 doesn't have gprs. 3510 has it but 3410 still supports wap..

ok, well I suppose I should update my information.
so what ARE the constraints preventing us from converting a 3330 to a 3410? I was only told the flash is bigger by an unreliable source (same place that told me it supported GPRS) I know the screen is higher res, and there is a lack of buttons on the 3330 plate. but what else?
I'm tempted just to try puttnig a 3410 flash into my spare 3330.
I once tried putting a 3350 flash into a 3330, the lack of domes on the dome sheet made it impossible to navigate, but the buttons underneath did work. so if we can convert a 3330 to a 3350 and some 3350's to 3410's then why not 3330 to 3410?

HI There..

Nokia 33** & Nokia 34** use the same PCB..but only PCB revision 11 or 12 has the extra keys, that is why some people report having 3310 or 3330 with extra buttons. At some point Nokia revised the PCB to make it usable for 3410..

The only difference between 33** and 34 series is..

3310 vs 3410 = 4 Mbyte flash in 3410 2 MByte flash in 3310 and the display is not the same..

3330 vs 3410 = Only display is different..

And then offcourse they all have different software...

If you have a newer 3330 with PCB rev 11 or 12 you can change the display and the casing and reflash with 3410 fullflash and change imei with rolis and voila you have a 3410...

I want to buy a new 3330. Is there any way I can determine if its PCB is rev 11 or 12 without ripping it apart (of course the store wont let me do that)? I wanna try your 3330 to 3410.

To clear things up:
3310-->3330: you will need a new flashmemory and a new memory
3330-->3350: you will only need a new lcd screen(higher res), an lcd of 3350/3410 with the extra buttons.
3330-->3410: You will need new lcd screen, olso 3350/3410 and a new memory because the memory of 3410 is bigger than 3330/3350.

So it's not really true that the 3410 and 3330 have the same pcb.
maybe it's possible that nokia made the same mistake as with 3310 by using 3330 pcb, downgrading it to 3310 and sel it as 3310. But i have seen a lot of 3330's and what i saw is that they have the same pcb, so with the extra buttons. I think nokia made one pcb and used it as 3330 and 3350. I'not sure but if somebody can clear that up for me....

does somebody know if there's specific imei range on those 3330's that have extra keys?

i have one 3330 board at home that has extra keys and would be upgradeable to 3350 but it doesn't work (mcu ram bad).


and same for 3330's that have downgraded to 3310, do they have specific imei range?

because, imei has phone's serial number if i'm not wrong, so every nokia phone has it's own serial number and i believe those downgraded or with new pcb has to be specific range.
