Hey Guys, I tried to test the netstrengt function on my 3330 today using the combi flasher(dr bizar) on XP with userport.

So I backup up my whole thing, like 4MB
and my eeprom also, in a separate fls file.

Now..problem 1, I wanted to start from my big file ofcourse,
since that contains my eeprom too, I need to get rid of that part.
So, I used ppm manager to export mcu & ppm
mcu exports nice, but ppm is to large (guess the eeprom still hanging arround)

Again..trying flsedit..mcu saves fine, ppm seems to be good also
but after joining both g3n0lite give some error when fixing checks
the ppm was 1 byte less then the ppm files I got from the web, and like..6 differences or so.

So, joined my mcu with the downloaded ppm..and did the netstrenght thing, then fixed the checks (not killed)

And flashed these (mcu+ppm, not eeprom) with rolis 478b6 (4.77 gave an error on loading an 3330 ppm file..and I tried a few)..flashing went really smooth.

Ok then updating faid..well, the *new desing* part from knok25b
reads my phone..but the old quick set faid part...just hangs.

Anyway, tried my phone..resets every +-30secs, netstrenght really low..no moving parts.

after trying some progs, noktool 1.8 seemed to wanna read my phone(after messing with the options)..and a set faid option..WOOHOO, it says FAID successfully updated

Nothing fixed at all, still same prob, no netwerk coverage either.
noktool doesn't want to *read* my phone
b-phreaks logger3.1 (does that thing update faid too..usable? coz this works for me) it says..can't read ppm version..
knok25b gave errors like can't read imei etc..
/me starts to get scared.

Ooh well, backed up my original mcu+ppm (from my big file, in rolis->copy bin to ppm)..still same shit
finally..wrote back my eeprom.;and everything fine & original again
(didn't need to set faid???)

So wtf went wrong??:)

thx for reading my long story;)

Mr. W0rf,

wtf is quite simple: 3330-430/450.
reason is flash check calc, no tool can.

so faid was calced ok, only based on wrong input.

Anyway, for U g3n0Lite has the solution; DeadFaid.

1. modify the things U like
2. DeadMcu/ Faid
3. Flash it
4. Set Faid (once)

If U modify on that file afterwards, recalc and setting faid isn't even required anymore.

Btw, I loved the story!

thx Nokdoc, I'll give it a try:)

that 3330 v4.50 seems to be a real bitch then:D
(g3n0lite seems to have some menu read probs on it too)
I'll teach the damn phone to listen to me;)

had some problems at first, had to reflash my backup a few times

I get the impression that the import from rolis (mcu+ppm) from bin to PPM doesn't work right, I just gives the impression that it does
(using save as afterwords, mcu saves ok, ppm saves to big) so that could be why some prog gave..can't read ppm version.

or maybe it was coz I did a chkfix in g3n0..then deadfaid (and no mcukill)

Anyway, last attempt: chkiller on mcu+ppm->dead mcu and dead faid, then split them in 2 with ppm manager, load the 2 files separately in rolis..flash..remove battery..set faid with nokiatool from jordik..seems to work now..finally:D

So gonna start modding that file now:):)
fade is the first objective:)

This is really learn by trial:)

hi,

this tool is useful if you downloaded a full flash file and afterwards you wanna edit only mcu+PPM part...

usage:

pcopy src_file dest_file begin lenght

eg.

pcopy 3410_full.fls 3410_426.fls 0 3604480

that'll copy the first 3604480 bytes (beginning with the '0th' - that's the first in fact - byte) of the file 3410_full.fls to the file 3410_426.fls

WARNING: prog only handles short (8 chars name+3 chars extension) filenames!!!

so you don't have to mess with PPM Manager if you want only to do this (PPM Manager is a very cool prog, but for this pcopy is the one:)

if you don't want to rename your flash file, then look at its properties page (alt+enter) and check its short name (usually something containing a ~ and a number at the end of the name, before the dot and the extension)

if you have a better prog (that handles long filenames) for the same purpose please share it!

well, It depends what I used.
for a 3310 I used rolis to make a mcu+ppm
simply copy /b mcu+ppm delivered a too small file:)

when cutting away a fubu..I mostly use a hexeditor (I need to open it anyway..to search the offset where I need to cut)
