I was looking at the about menu in rollis 4.78 and it says that there is some security data in the software on the phone that if overwritten or erased will kill the phone. What's it talking about?
it is talking about the eeprom area of flash.
an eeprom is really a chip that is Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory, so the device its connected to (ie your phone) can use it for saving data thats needed later just like when you save to disk. That data is things like game scores, selections you make in menus, phone memory numbers etc.
As that eeprom area is really specific to one phone only (so your phone and your friends will both have different eeproms even if you have the exact same phone), Nokia also put security data such as IMEI number, XOR IMEI number (security IMEI), SIM lock data, security code inside the eeprom zone.
Nokia in later DCT3 phones put this eeprom area inside the flash chip as the new developments in flash technology mean its more viable to do it that way :)
so now you can access all this data by reading with normal Dejan flasher cables, but if its erased... thats not really such a problem these days as you have software such as Rolis tool, eeprom tools, Dejans NK_Calc that can repair your eeprom data direct by M bus data cable. so you can write an eeprom taken from a known working phone to yours and rebuild IMEI and SP lock data so its as original.

Ahh! Thanks so much. I was really worried there for a second!
hi,
up till about a year ago it really was a big thing to delete/mess up an eeprom as there was no way of rebuilding that data :)

are your composed ringtones also are saved in the eeprom? if not, where can it be found. i have 3310 fon. because i like to transfer my composed ringtones to another flashfile without having to compose those ringtones again. its hardwork u know...
all i want is to see where are there hex codes so that i can add to the fixed tones in my fon. i cant seem to find it anywhere, i looked in ppm, mcu and in eeprom, but i can't find it. are they coded in a different way compared to those rttl tones converted to .re?
thanx, i hope someone can help me...

i think the composed tones are saved in the eeprom zone coz everytime i flash my phone with my old eeprom, the old tones (including the profile setting, startup logo, operator logo and others) of that eeprom would be played. and, thats my next project, how could i hack the top scores in the games without playing it.... imagine scoring 20000000000 in space impact.... would'nt it be great!!!!!!

no not yet, but i'll try... you see, i'm quite busy this week, i have a heck of exams, don't want my grades to flank... just wait, and i'll tell you if i already did it.... k? kabayan....
hi,
to edit the snake score, see HERE (http://www.nokia-unlocking.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/resource/tutorials/cheatATsnake.htm) . its very old now..
before you could get soft like flashtone, i used to work with ppm and the ringtones in 3310 ppm and eeprom were different formats if i remember..
in any case there is no software to rip them from the eeprom, unless your willing to use a hex editor?? http://www.bpsoft.com
dont think you can make the snake 1 look like snake 2 but maybe:)
actually i think gnoki can extract composer tones to .re format. search the forum for links to that program..

Yep,
Like Pico said, Gnokii can and will quite easily extract composed/sent ringtones from the phone and save in many formats! I just save as a *.bin file and then rename to logomangers files! Works 100%
