View Full Version : Anyone know what the minimum sytem requirements for win98 are?

The reason I ask is becuase I can't flash with my xp comp, so I'm wondering if I can install win98 on my old 486 and flash with that. Does anyone know what the minmum system requirements are for win 98?

Why can't you flash with your XP computer? Just install this program in attachment. Run that program (Userport) and you will be able to access your pc ports (COM and LPT) just like the way you do with win9x/me. Then you can use Rolis Flasher to flash your phone and Nokia Tool by Rolis v1.9 to update faid, restore factory settings, etc...

Thanks for the suggestion but I've tried userport before. I don't know what's going on, becuase even with userport running, no programs can recognise my phone.

win 98 on a 486 should not be a problem, can't recall the exact minimum requirements of win98 at present, but I have an old 486DX4 laptop with 12MB Ram which used to happly run win98 (not used for unlocking though).
You've nothing to lose by trying.
Alternativly, you could consider creating another small partition on your main machine to install win98. this will give you a dual boot machine which should cover all your needs, both XP & 98.

But I thought that had some complications with booting? How difficult would this be to do without losing my copy of xp?

Check your LPT port settings in your BIOS...

Make sure you're using the right mode and have the correct address configured for whatever LPT port setting you select in Rollis.

It's set to ECP/EPP. I'm pretty sure i've tried it in both modes singularly. Ugh! WHat's wrong with my comp!?!?

What i meant was also check the addresses that are assigned to the port are the ones that match the setting that you're using in Rollis or whatever other flashing program you are using.

By the way, just to let you know, the system requirements on Windows 98 as listed on the box are:

486DX/66 Mhz or higher processor
16 MB of RAM
Anywhere between 120 to 296 MB HDD space
VGA , mouse, etc..
