I was wondering if the nokia 7650 phone supports the MMC Memory Cards. Been using the phone for a couple of months now, and I have little free memory left to install programs. Since I really enjoy the programs i have, I don't wanna uninstall anything to make room for new ones. Saw that the 3650 supports it, and since I didn't see anywhere that the 7650 supports it, I thought I could ask you guys before I made up my mind and buy the 3650 too :p

Hi,
what shoult I say? As the 7650 was developed (spring 2002) the target was a "Multi Media Phone" with camera and some new features. Therefore gives the engeniers a memory of 3,6 MB and that shoult be enough for fotos, MMS, big contacts and so on.
But at the time of changing the year the software market exploids with SW for Symbian OS 6. And only for this we all get a feeling of to less memory.
But we cant get a seriously solution from Nokia - they offers likely further new models to buy - and a individuell solution inside the phone (memory chip changing) or outside (Bluetooth hard disk) are not practicable or to expansive. My opinion.
The steps are:
- using Stacker to save space and install not to much
- install - play games - reinstall - install new
- wait for a heritage of the 7650
- or
buy the 3650. He is simply better with more features, but it is NOT perfect. Because:
- the keypads are not usefull
- size bigger than 7650 with insided keypad
- camera lens is alway unsafly at the back front - no safe cover= scratching always
- and the memory-solution? I think, you cant not more install than at 7650, because the mem is 3,6 MB too. I dont know, if you can install big files a part to the drive c: and the rest to the MMC-Card. I believe: Not.
Therefore the MMC Card is only good for 2 things: storing many, many photos or video clips. Or: store the install files of desired progs, and if you need one immediatly, you can reinstall one prog from drive c: and install the new from MMC. But the question: Is it possible to install from MMC? (I dont know).
Final note: I think, the advantage of THIS phone is not so large how it seems. You cant install "big" Java Games ore much, much apps and games, because Drive C: is limited like our 7650. And what do want to store 16 MB with photos? This are thousends. Where is the sense? The only good application is MUSIC. You can store many PM3 files and can play it. BUT not sens again: The sound is lousy and MONO. Who wants this?
*** If anybody has another technical informations, feel free to correct me. No problem***. And sorry for the english.

don't worry SiCkPuPPi i read somewhere in this forum that a blutooth harddrive might be released soon it would most likely be like a flash memory where we could stack up our files. you could also find a very interesting thread in this forum which was sarted by mosser-he would be trying to open his phone and install bigger memory card. don't resort to 3650 it does have flaws, and from the looks of it, it misses the ergonomics. Just wait for the blutooth harddriev and mosser's experiment.
as of the moment, i'll advise you to:
install space doubler and follow Sackgesicht advise(i for one do it too)

You have many good points there, Sackgesicht. I didn't realize that it wasn't possible to use the memory card as an "addon" to c:
I think it's a shame that Nokia doesn't make it possible to use the mem card to operate as an extention for c:. You can bet that they have the technology for it, but surely wants to wait before they produce phones that has this technology. Almost every firm these days operate this way. They can't skip a tech level since they can make money on everything that's new to the customers. A good example is Telenor, our main telephone company in Norway, that insisted on that the norwegians needed ISDN instead of DSL/Cable and set us back 5 years technologically. They saw the opportunity to make millions if they could trick the consumers to think that this was the best sollution.
It's a shame that we have to be selective of what kind of programs we install. It's kind of weird really, since the phone has so many possibilities for programs such as emulators for consoles (the games take up pretty much space) and video/sound. In my opinion these are the apps that takes up most space.
The video/pics and sounds storing is pretty easy for ppl with cpu's. Don't exactly know what these mem cards costs, but I think it's cheaper with a bluetooth adapter (I payed about 100 dollars for mine) than buying memcards. Easy and painless transfer to the computer, rather than storing the files on a memcard.

You do not worry as much about the memory.
The phones are like the computers, every six months remove one superior one and yours it remains old fashioned. I believe that we must exhaust the 7650, and within a year us we surely changed it by the new model that exists then, that the 3650 was old fashioned. We do not forget that the main function of phone "is to speak"................
If somebody wants something superior that it thinks about a PDA
