How do i back up? EEPROM

How in simple terms do i back up my phone & EEPROM AREA and re-use the back up.As i am still experimenting and don't want to kill another phone.I am new to all of this.Also where can i learn more about the workings of mobile phones so i can help other people as well as myself.
