Keep IR activated on 7110?

Hi all,
Can you somehow keep the Nokia 7110 with IR activated? I use it to send SMS's from my PC via the IR, but having to switch on IR all the time is a pain. I don't really want to fork out $$ for a cable to do it that way.

IR will stay activated as long a connection between your pc and phone is detected.
keep the phone in range of your pc's IR, and u'll have non stop ir.
