View Full Version : Impossible to calculate CRCs after editing operator list w/ ppmEdit?

Hi everyone,

after having trouble sending logos to a 5130, I developed a theory that maybe the logos didn't show on screen because neither my country code (BRA/724) nor my operator (724 31/Oi) were in the phone's operators list (since this 5130 was released in April 2000 and GSM started in Brazil in late 2001).

Anyways, every time I try to add, edit, remove, etc. any entries in the countries/operators list in PPM using ppmEdit I'm not able to have the CRCs calculated correctly for flashing the phone.

I tried to calculate the checksums using: PPMManager, Knok, and CHKFixer.

CRCs are correctly calculated by all those progs if I edit anything else using ppmEdit (bitmaps for example), but they remain the same when I try to calculate them after editing the operators list, even after using the progs and getting an "OK" message from them. And when I flash such a modified file to the 5130 I get 'Contact Service'. (naturally, since the checksums are messed up!).

Sum up: CRCs change from the original ones when I edit ops list but cannot be corrected again. Thus edited flash won't work in phone.

I tried separating PPM and calc'ing CRCs separately but it's always the same problem.

So, my questions basically are:

1. Is it impossible to modify a phone's (or a 5130's) operator list using ppmEdit?

2. Is it possible using another prog? (FLSEdit won't open the operators list in my 5130 flashes)

3. Is it possible to have the CRCs correctly calculated after editing ops. list? If so, what program should I use?

4. Well, really, can I make this happen (edit ops list and flash it back to phone without prompting "Contact Service") ?

Sorry for the long post but I always tend to over-explain things. Still, all the information is there.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

1. Normally it should be.

2. FLSedit can't edit your operators list, it hasn't the option yet.

3.PPMManager should do the trick, or maybe try CHKFixer by Joox

4.Hmmm, 5110,5130,6110,6130 Almost always go Contact Service.

The 5130 doesn't support operator logo's via cable. Corret me if I'am wrong here.

Thanks for your reply.

I did try PPMManager and CHKFixer by Joox. Always got 'Contact Service". And no CRC changes after using them - I mean it's always as good as not using the progs.

As for the operator logo, Logo Manager does state that the 5130 supports logos sent by cable. And the logos are indeed sent to the phone (I can upload and then download a logo from this 5130). But they're not displayed on screen. So maybe you're right, or maybe it's a bug in the phone.

I'm having trouble with this particular 5130 with ALS settings as well (read my other threads in this forum if you'd like more info).

PPMEdit CAN EDIT operators list.
Very strange...For me it's all Ok (tested with my 3310). I'm also tried to update 5130 fullflash and it was updated fine (added BRA(724) - Oi(31), changed CRC's)

Hi Al,

Did your modified flash work (with added 724 31)? Did you manage to upload logos?

Can you post your modified 5130 flashfile here or maybe send it to my e-mail? [email protected]

Can't get this 5130 to work as I want!

Thanks

And maybe post your version of FLSEdit, because mine won't even let me click on the "Operator" button (it's off)...

Sorry, of course PPMEdit can update operators list, not FLSEdit.

@Nanda
I can't test fullflash for 5130 by myself, I've only 3310 (and I think it's going to die after my experiments :)

Check your email ;)

@Al

Thanks! But your flashfile didn't work either... ("Contact Service" :( )

Will keep trying though.

All checksums is right....for 3310 this method works 100%...

i had the same problem when editing 5110... even if the crc's are fixed, i still got "CONTACT SERVICE".... i think the software does not support 5110, 6150 or 5130...

also, when trying to edit the text in my english language chunk using ppmedit, i got same problem using ppmedit. what i did to get the darn thing working was i used ppmmanager and exported the language chunk as a text file, edited, imported it back to the flash file, and saved. it did the trick.

but in your case, since you want to add your country and your operator, that would be a little bit difficult. if you find your way around it, please tell me, want to know... and i'll try doing the thing myself, see if i can...:)

Nanda: Have you checked to see if Nokia has released a new firmware version for 5130? Normally they update the operator list when they release new firmware. It's worth a try at least ;-)

ppmedit will work.
it should do same errors for 6110 (dsp-3) too, but for me ppmedit worked ok and my 6110 works ok.
added some new finnish operators.
and i'm using ppmedit 1.0h.
