hi, this is my first post here. and ive been reading a lot on this forum.

Please be kind to answer my query:

1) i have a 3510 cellfone.
2) i wanted to modify the ringtone/logo in it.
3) here in our country, we don't have yet a 3510 data cable.
4) but a 3310 cable is available, roughly US$9 here.
5)i have researched about the pin outs of both 3510 and 3310
(that stuff where MBUS, FBUS, VCC pins are located on the
phone)

6) i know that the pin-outs of 3310 is different IN ORIENTATION
with the 3510.

but my question is:

if i would modify the orientation of the pin-outs of 3310 cable, in such a way that the MBUS pin (of the cable) will make contact with MBUS pin (of my 3510), and so goes with the other pins.

will it work?

because i have seen here lots of MBUS/FBUS circuit diagram that says it will work on most nokia phone models.

In theory,as the way i understand it, most data cables have the same circuit components (IC, capacitor, resistor) and that the only thing different about it is the CONNECTION TO THE PHONE.
is that right? (i mean for most cellfones)

thanks,
im looking forward for an answer

Hi :)

Yes, modifying "the orientation of the pin-outs of 3310 cable, in such a way that the MBUS pin (of the cable) will make contact with MBUS pin (of my 3510), and so goes with the other pins." works. That's all you need to do. Good luck

gee, thanks you very much bgcngm! you're a life saver!

can i ask another question? at least for those who are also reading my post

1) the PIN-OUTS of 3310 is shown here

PIN 1- MBUS
PIN 2 - GND
PIN 3- Rx
PIN 4 - Tx

4) While the PIN-OUTS of 3510 are as follows:

PIN 1- GENTEST 0 (DAI CLOCK)
PIN 2 - GND
PIN 3 - VPP
PIN 4 - Rx
PIN 5 - MBUS
PIN 6 - Tx

I guess i have no problems "orienting" pins of MBUS, GND, TX
and Rx of both cellphones.

But what mesmerizes me is the PINS 1 and 3 of 3510.
Do these two pins have any use in connection with updating logo
or ringtone? or can i just ignore them?

Hi, I think that the two pins are important only for flashing. It shouldn't be important for FBUS and MBUS. FBUS has got two Pins: TX and RX. MBUS has got one Pin: MBUS. And Ground (Gnd) is common.

Yap, that's right! If you want to connect to your 3510 using FBUS you'll need pins 2,4,5 and 6. If you want to connect using MBUS you'll only need pins 2 and 5. :)

em so can we use all pins (i mean for Fbus and Mbus) on the modified cable?
