Main purpose of this software is manipulations with PPM.

Features:
* Import/Export chunks;
* Import/Export/Add/Remove subchunks;
* TEXT subchunks edit (even on 62x0 & 7110!!!), unicode also supported (but multibyte characters not supported yet);
Use right & double mouse click at tree view ;)

compression algo is far from perfect, so result is little bigger :)

This software will crash if PPM has incorrect structure, especially in hand modified flashs!!! so be carefull :)

Absolutely great work Al! =)

...but there seems to be something wrong with your decompression algo.

There are characters missing in many finnish words. F.ex finnish word for battery is "akku", but your prog decompresses it as "aku", "kaikki" becomes "kaiki" and "muokkaa" becomes "muokaa", "tallennettu" becomes "talennettu". Same problem seems to be in swedish language also (as far as i understand swedish).

I did a little test: depacked and repacked texts with your prog and flashed back to phone, result: missing characters as described. Problem occurs with all 6210/6250 flashes i tried.

I've also written a prog for editing texts in 62xx and my prog decompresses those words also the wrong way so there must be something missing from the algo. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow...

And another thing. Option to export _uncompressed_ 62xx text chunk as file would make it possible to load text chunk in f.ex inoculate, allowing to edit unicode corrrectly and then import it back to ppmmaker and recompress.

This is a great soft.
It's the first time that we can see 6210 text written on our computer monitor.

About uncompressed text - you can't recompress it for now, coz PPMMaker doesn't build new compression key it uses the same one (it's not optimal), maybe I do it later :)
For me Inoculate works a little incorrect with Russian unicode ;)

Thanks a lot for this first tool with the capability to decompress 6210 texts.

I think we are all happy and will help you test this new tool

Here is the first "bug" i found:

language packs with "8C000000" flag is using the UTF-8 algorithm.

This means that every character below x80 is "what it seems" (not using the LPCS to translate) every character from x80 and up is a UTF-8 unicode character (if you dont know this alorithm you can find all descriptions on the net, just search for UTF-8

-testing a bit further, i think you may have missed the LPCS decoding part. Every character in a "80000000" or "00000000" flagged language is a pointer to the LPCS, decoding into unicode characters (a little bit like 6210 algo, you just make the translation one-by-one) (usually the LPCS translates to the same character like \x61 translates to \u0061

when i open this text chuck area and choose a language to edit and right click on it and choose edit, it doesn't open this language chunk, but opens the COMM one

when i double click on a language chunk it opens the right one

it's just very small buggy

I have a little problem:
I've cut a Romanian T9 dictionary from a 3310 flash file and I've inserted in a 6250 flash file with PPMMaker 1.03. But in modified file, in "Dictionary" shows me 2 English dictionaries now, instead of one English and one Romanian!

Can anybody tell me what is the problem?

I've never even thought about changing langs before, i didn't know how to do it but with this prog i had no problem changing langs in my 3350. I've not got it 100% right, I used 3330 lang pack and the words seem out, is this because of the extra keys on the 3350 and if so should i use lang packs from 3410.

no, this is incorrect, you must put symbols in unicode format (2bytes):
\x01\x0A - will be interpreted as one unicode symbol

you must put this:
\x00\x01 - for blink
\x00\x0A - for new line

i.e. \x00\x01\x00\x0A

I think its a great solution to be using unicode all over, but it makes it a bit messy to have to use \x00\x0A whenever you have a non-diplayable character. may i come with the following sugestion:

you alredy knows "a" = x0061
you could make the assumption \x0A = x000A
and introduce \u5302 = x5302

would make things a bit more easy to look at

(may i note that if you use this syntax in a txt file you may edit it with the (russian) freeware editor called "Unired" and get the \u5302 displayed as the real character - if you have a proper font installed)

anyways, this is a great program and we are a lot of nokia freaks that is VERY happy

I would agree with the above mentioned request of @gkagg .

I could explain the reason:
The unicode expression of special character depends on the language pack group. Some groups have the same codes, but some others don't.
It is very importand on the translating procedure.

My suggestion is :
Before extracting the text to can see the characters in \x00\xEB form (for example) and when the text is extracted to get only the coresponding character ( ë ) .

i've found a bug in your prog, Al:
i've modified a little the width of a couple of chars in font chunk. when i try to open the flash file, it crashes. so, whenever i want to modify sth, i have to change the font chunk temporarily with flsedit (by joox) and then replace it with my custom one.
i have posted my flash file, so that you can test it too. do the same and you'll see...

That's not my bug, thats PPMEdit bug, length of font subchunk is incorrect, PPMMaker based on info that's in headers of chunks, so if info is incorrect -> unpredictable results, even crashing.
Change this in your flash file:
014042F: DC -> E0

Also your flash file has incorrect structure of Greek language chunk

Yup, it's possible, but you need to translate it manually (if Hungarian Language pack doesn't exist) and also add some corrections to font & lpcs chunks (also aord & gsmc if necessary :). About adding languages gkagg knows more, I think, I just've wrote tool that will help :)

PPM package B is the one which contains the Hungarian language for 3210 so there is no need to translate...

Try to find B pack and flash it to your phone...

ppm maker v1.05 has bug.

I modify 3310 v5.79 ppm A. remove all languange & T9 expect for English language, and adding Indonesia languange & T9 from ppm F, but I cannot write sms with T9 on.

Anyone can remove chinese font in 3310 v5.79 PPM F. so i don't need modify ppm A and add indo languange & T9 ?

As far as I know thereis no such proggies that can help you with inserting new character to existing font, coz font chunk is too complicated. But you can try to export whole font chunk from another phone.

PS every language in every Nokia phone uses unicode.

to make free space in PPM just remove unused languages, dictionaries & other stuff from PPM with PPMMaker. if you need more space in MCU - I know 2 softwares, that can do this, but they both are not free, it's KXplorer & SecTonePro

Maybe in next release (if only it will be), but for now you can use save/load text feature. It will generate txt file with all entries in unicode format. You can open it even with Notepad and all symbols will be displayed properly, so you can use search in it ;)

search string 'dumfile' , you will find 2 string, check only first
you will find this 'pointer address' (which points to ppm start) XX bytes after dumfile :) coz it vary from models

Dear friend Al,
I am trying to modify the greek text of a 3310 v 5,79 flash file, using your PPMmaker v5.
When i extract the text chunk i get characters mix.
Latin and greek together. When I reload to the fls file and flash it to the phone i get greek menus with character mix.
Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

The Greek text i get from your software is not pure greek. Some of the greek characters are replaced by latin ones, but with the same tone.
For example:
The greek p (π=Unicode 03C0) is replaced by the latin one.
The greek s (σ=Unicode 03C3) also
The greek t (τ=Unicode 03C4) also
The greek f (φ=Unicode 03C6) also
The greek delta (δ=Unicode 03B4) also.

Another think is that always the last letter of a sentence is written as the first letter of the sentence below.

I hope this explanations will help you to solve the problem

It's ANSI <> Unicode problems, maybe I'll fix it, but I'm not sure, anyway if I'll decide to discontinue this project by myself I'll release sources of it.

But I interesting mcu patch for copy protection. I know faid should be used for this purpose but now everyone can do it. So can you patch flash file and create different faid algorithm or just add additional calc algo inside mcu.For example when the phone power on it will search some speicial uniquie I.D like imei ,hw i.d or msid etc inside eeprom if it's correct then it will start Also I know it still hackable, but anywhere if you can do for me I can pay for that.
In 1 month people can't hack then okey for me? Becuase I releasing special customised flash file in my hometown, but many people just make copy then earn money from my work.
Maybe you can teach me how do this, then I also pay for that.

i had this problem too and Al told me that the text structure of Greek was not so good... this may happen because of editing the text using ppmedit first. in order to fix it, insert a Greek text chunk from an unmodified flash file and modify it again.

You are right. I got an unmodified fls file and the greek text was extracted without the last character, first, problem.

But still some greek characters are replaced by latin ones.

Any idea how to fix that?

I have problems using the ppmmaker (1.0 to 1.05) whit TDMA fls files, i was trying to modify some words in the PPM, but when i just press ok or save buttom the program finish brutally, and I cant make modifications in these files, cannot import chunk, only export, what can i do?, I understan that the GSM files are so diferents to TDMA files, but i want to make modifications whitout problems you can help me?




Hola amigos no se mucho ingles pero hago lo que puedo, estuve tratando de modificar los idiomas de un telfono tdma 6120, pero se me presentan problemas, al parecer la forma de la que trabajan los archivos GSm son diferentes a los TDMA, pero me gustaria saber por que pasa eso, el programa se cierra cuando intento grabar mis modificaciones, que puedo hacer?

hay algun programa que me funcione con TDMA?
