View Full Version : Chips to obtain free credit??
Someone I know reckons that you can get a chip for a pay as you go phone that when you switch the phone off and on, you get free credit.
I am dubious as i had never heard of it, anyone know any different?
This used to only work on Phillips Diga phones. This was about 4/5 years ago. I don't think it will work any more.

Old scam mate, As is mentioned above... This happened a long time ago and that network lost loads of money (BT Cellnet) So the chances of this happening again are very slim!

Yeah, that was out a few years ago and the Networks caught on to it pretty quickly, would be a bit dubious bout it too mate.

I had a Philips (BT) chiped phone which i bought for £150 and i constantly caned it for about 8 months all mostly on international calles then it got switched off so i rang up BT and somehow managed to get the line back on again then i caned it again for about another 2 months before it got cutt off again then when i rang BT to see wot had happened, the operator said to me my line has been disconected because i have made over £15,000 worth of calls since the line has been registered but has only ever been toped up with a £20 voucher once, then the operator said there is no chance of the line geting back opened but i can go buy another BT simcard and use it in the phone. I must admit i wasnt that bothered as the phone was caned all the time internationally. If however similar chiped phones came out again then i would gladly invest in it.

This was brilliant when it worked at the time had one Phillips C12 ran up a £250 bill in 2weeks. My mate was chipping them and he was making between £500 - £1000 a day. But it didn't work on the 0773 no's that were the new 1's that came out and that was the end of that. Heard that some1 chipped a 3210 but that was just a rumour. Also i dont think you can get the same pic chips that were used.

there is a person in northern ireland that can chip a phone so you get free credit.
the networks have counters and when you make a call the counters start thus counting down until you run out pf credit,
when he chips the phone and you make a call it scrambles the counters,,
well thaTS what i have been told!!!!!!!!!!!!1
That is known as sim clock stop.
You used to be able to type in codes into your mobiles using keypad and your counter would stop giving you free calls again this is a old scam it can no longer be done. The best way to get free credit is to rob a petrol station

Im sorry Gee mate but your mistaken by an "urban myth"..
Sim Clock Stop is, in actual fact, a power saving mode for the phone. I can't remember the ins and outs of the theory of simclockstop but you'll find it in the etsi documents (http://www.etsi.org i believe)..
The code you mention is (on NMP) *#sim0clock# - doesn't do anything on recent NMP (e.g. 7210) but on older ones it tells you if the simcard allows clock stop. You can't activate/deactivate it- it's automatic and improves battery performance...
This code has never done anything else but that! If anyone thinks it has given them free credit in the past they are either mistaken or it coincided with an operator malfunction..
The only such codes that have ever existed are the individually issued by operators and are one time use only.. The only operator ever to issue me with one is One2One (now T-Mobile) in the UK to refund credit after I had a month or so of coverage so bad the service was unuseable.. Needless to say the code worked once only..
As for the philips digi phones with the chip:
The reason this worked is that BT-Cellnet tried to cut costs by storing credit on the handset and not in a network database (tho the network logged the topups and the like, they rarelt compared it to the calls made!). What the chip actually done was simply increase the credit counter on the phone. BT-Cellnet eventually deactivated all the simcards and IMEI related to these phones..
