what is flashing????

I know this quetion as probably been asked a million times, and the oldies on this board ;) are going to moan about answering it again, but can some one explain to me what flashing is??

All most every post on this BB, say, have you or you should flashed the phone in some way or another, so please can some tell me what it is?

flashing is basically nudity in public places... :P

Flashing on this forum referes to the process or writing to the phone's ROM. the process of writing to all roms is called flashing (i think thats it anyway lol)..

So u can edit parts of the phones operating system, and upgrade it. etc

so if i brought the relevant flashing leads, what could i do to my 8310,

erm.. change the default ringtones.. change the look of the phone.. update the operating system of the phone to have newer features... read about a bit on the forum.. you'll get the ideas from what people are doing

to change anything in the flash in an 8310 or other DCT4 phones, u need at the very minimum the cheap DCT4 Flasher, even then it is only firmware and language package, as DCT4 flash is yet to be unencrypted, theoretically makin it impossible at the time bein to modify/manipulate the files... standard dejan cables wont work with these phones. of course M/FBUS cable will do the usual stuff, ringtones logo's etc

all flashing is basically, writing new firmware to the phone, or dependin on the phone there is possibilitys to flash new features to the phones, u can also upload manipulated files to your phone, for example, flashes with modded graphics, dif tones etc..

but you who wanted to edit 8310, if you want to modify phone, you have to modify older dct-3 models.
