In order to perform a total MCU upgrade, say from one software version to another (And fix bugs + maybe add new features), the checksum will need to be recalculated for the new .mcu How is this done? How would you tell the flash loader to recognise the new checksum? Nokia must do it somehow, is it a feature of their TDF-4 Units?

yes the tdf4 calcs cheksum. this can be done by log file too though, but you need to have hardware that reads log files from phone.
The TDF-4 basically needs the imei MSID and Product ID to calc cheksum.
tdf4 price £10,000 but not worth it because all you can do is upgrade mcu ppm which is software update and language change. it cannot change imei therefore useless. It can repair dead phones though but... you can buy other boxes for a fraction of that price that flash mcu's and ppm's and then u send log file to ur dealer
