never, ever, ever restart your computer and leave the flash cables connected to your phone while windows boots up.

i did so, i heard a funny click sound from the phone, and now its totally fucked.. wont power on at all, and when rolis asks me to "power on shortly", i press power button, or connect charger.. and it jsut sits there asking me to power it on

if anyone can guess at what component is damaged, (i have another 3310 damaged by plugging a charger into the hands free hole, but it might be a differnt component that is damaged so i can repair the one i just fucked)

then i can get it sorted out, i'd be much appreciative

once again.. never leave your cable connected when not necessary :/

well, i've killed enough electronic stuff in my time to know the sound of a component getting avoltage it doesnt like and going pop.. it was that sort of sound. the battery was out the phone for 15 minutes while i took a shower, i just popped it back in (it has a full charge from last night) and tried.. the phone is dead.. cleaned the contacts, reinserted battery. still dead. connected the charger. battery symbol does not appear, no indication that phone is accepting a charge.

the only thing i can do, is make it buzz by plugging in the charger without a battery in.. but every nokia does that as the power ICs dissipate the voltage that they cant put across the battery...

im pleased that your setup, whatever windows os and phone cable design you have, doesnt cook phones.. but if someone had just given me the little bit of advice i present here.. i'd only have a "contact service" to worry about, not buying another phone..

not that it really matters cos phones cos next to nothing anyways.. its just the hassle of using a motorola m3788e piece of shit when all i should have done was pulled the plug between the parallell end o the cable, and the phone end, before wintesla installer insisted on restarting the system.. sometimes life teaches us an expensive mistake.. :|

Everytime I connects my phone to the cable and restart or opens Rolis I hear this voice and I thing it some kind of electric signal from the program to see if the phone is conected and responding or not but that happens with me in the LPT flasher not in Mbus or Fbus..but i think that you may have now a hardware problem maybe yourr chip is bad and didn't resist this signal

all im saying is.. whatever windows 2000 advanced server does as part of it's parallel port initialisation, in combination with the design of my flasher cable, screwed my phone..

im not advising not to flash the phone.. the flashing seemed to go okay, (but left me with CONTACT SERVICE message cos i didnt get chance to set the faid)

but i restarted the computer and didnt disconnect the flasher cable... something happened and the phone is now dead..

i was unlucky.. and im trying to help other people not be so unlucky.. disconnect your flash cable whenever you arent flashing a phone.. you could end up with some freak accident breaking ur phone

on a different note, the local phone guru reckons he can repair my 3310 for a tenner (ten uk pounds sterling)

im just trying to decide if its worth it, or if i should get a 7110

Heard about this in the nokia forum, apparantly it happens if u have a bidirectional parallel port on your computer, its fine with that, but the flasher cables are not 100% compatiable with a new type of parallel port thats coming out.

My phone always makes the 'pop' sound when I open rolis!!
Sometimes it starts vibrating all over the place when I plug my lead in too!!

why not install a zener diode (3.6V) on the flasher power supply.... or the mbus power supply perhaps... :) that would really limit the voltage....that what i did to my flasher and data cables
