Hi!
I did it! i have translated the laguage pack L of 8250 from Indonesian into
Polish and also changed the font so that everything works and Polish
characters are shown. Add this to your page:
- get 8250 mcu+ppm pack L (it is improtant for all eastern europe laguages)
get 8210 flash file with your laguage
- you neeed to extract the text chunk from flash file to text.txt and
text.pck (just an example) file (mcu+ppm or only ppm) using ppm manager both
from 8210 and 8250 flash file
- translate the laguage you want to change ( i used ripped text from 8210
and M$ Excell to replace menu entries) ITS IMPORTANT that you dont touch
chinese or any other language that has special chars (only
thai/malaysian/indonesian are available)
- save the text.txt file and manually edit the text.pck file find there
entry fe. MALA (when you replaced thai) and change it to desired fe. POLI
for Polish

Hardcore part do something wrong and you have to start over again:
- explode 8250 flash usign ppm manager (if you need special characters like:
¹æê³ñ󜿟 others) name it 8250
- explode 8210 flash using ppm manager name it 8210
- delete files 8250.1_LPCS.fls, 8250.2_GSMC.fls, 8250.3_FONT.fls (dont touch
any others files!) and put 8210 exploded files fe. 8210.1_LPCS.fls, and so
on... you need ofcourse to renbame them from 8210 to 8250
- run ppm manager open 8250.Exploded, import text chunk from txt file, you
translated, update ppm crc
- save as flash to any desired name fe. 8250_mcu+ppm.fls
- now flash the file to your phone, update FAID and everything works fine
you got your language with you characters

Congratulations you have turned your Nokia into 8250 and you have your
language. Vanov if you ever come to Poland we'll party hard i owe you for
this ppm manager.
I guess the same will work for other nokias.

Notes:
- it is important that you dont try to change chinese language languages
that have menu entries like this in txt file:
1495 THAI \x0EI\x0E-\x0E\x07\x00 \x0EC\x0E+\x0EI
this goes for chinese vietnamese and other asian languages that have special
characters, if you change them the phone will work but menu texts are fucked
up or characters look like boxes...
- in 8250 txt file between entries : 1103 and 1122 is character map you need
to copy this from 8210 txt file in other case you ain't get your special
national characters (¹æê³ñ󜿟) BUT COPY them only in your translated part
of menu DONT TOUCH OTHER ENTRIES or you'll fuck up your phone!

i forgot to add this:
be careful when you copy text from n8210 there are some variables that are different in n8250 like %N and %U. Escecially by delivery reports!
And one more thing:
make sure thes lines look like this:

1103 POLI 0
1104 POLI 0
^^^^XXXX====----X0 description:

^^^^ line number dont change it
XXXX 4 spaces dont change it
---- 4 spaces dont change it
==== your language (you can change this)
X - 1 space!!! its important if you leave a space before the zero if you dont then by typing sms you will not get space, when you press zero.

ok. here's how i did it:
the software
- eeprom tools 3.0 by b-phreaks
- rollis flasher 4.77
- ms excell&windows wordpad
- ppm manager by vanov

i worked on upgraded phone (i have upgraded my nokia to 8250 long time ago) i worked only on mcu+ppm area 0020000 - 003d0000. If your phone displays contact service check all the crc's! load flash file into ppm manager and click on "update all ppm crcs"
this should work

And one more thing:
the 8210 flash file was the backup of my nokia before upgrade to 8250 (software version 5.29) hope this will help you if not mail me and maybe i'll do the translation for you and fix flash file and you'll have only to flash the file and update faid (maginfying glass icon in eeprom tools
 )

Does this works only on a ROM6 8210 or is it also working on a 8210 with ROM5?

Hi,

First thank you very much for explaining how to change the language pack in 8250.

That's quite normal, you first have to insert a voice tag for at least one name the phone book, you do this from the name's menu and not from the phonebook menu.

I managed to add french language to the ppm pack for 8250 v 504 (pack L) and it works quite good. I still have to fix some things like french labels that are too long and the name of the ringtones (the names are type 1, type 2 .....). I also have some little troubles with the french accent when receiving and writing sms (I think this is in the TEXT part).

This pack has now th english, the french and the deutsch language, there is no more any asian language in it.

I tried the T9 dictionnary and it works too, even with the other languages (italian, dutch...)

I also had get each screen saver logo with Logomanager, repaint it right and save it back (I think this is because of the virgine eeprom i used).

Anyway I'm glad to have succeded in changing my 8210 in 8250 and keepring the french language.

I think there is still a lot of work to do, but it isnt really hard work.

I think there will soon be a full working european PPM for the 8250.

Bye.

is it possible 8210 Rom5 can be upgraded to latest version? Rom5 is a restriction only for converting 8210 to 8250?

I've created a flash with a complete language pack B for the 8250, for info on how to create your own, see http://nokiafree.org/forums/t24474/s.html
