Is there some alternative software for nokia phones than this provided with them. I mean totally different, done by users? Os is there at least a project of creating some?

There is some such software available, yes! But... don't expect too much. You will find flash files which include changed/new graphics, more (MUCH more!) ringtones and sometimes even new fuctions like slide shows or picture message editors, always depending what phone model you have. I had mine own 3310 being converted to a 3315 with 59 ringtones (plus space for 12 own!), cute animated menu graphics, pictre editor, ability to edit and create blinking messages right on the phone, blinking phonebook entries and even profile names!
You won't get stuff like WAP in a non-WAP phone or a radio when there wasn't one originally, as this is hardware dependant. After all, these files are originals modified by the users....

I want just to upgrade my Nokia 6510 with Java. I bet its not hardware dependent.

The graphic display of the 6510 is surely nice to play games with higher resolutions, the 6510 is here the best mono Nokia.... but after all, the fun-factor of Java-games is the colour involved. I know only of ONE phone that could be upgraded to run Java applications, that one was the Siemens SL 45. Never heared of such mods on a Nokia. I am sure, if it would be possible, someone had found out by now....
But isn't it a better option to go for a Colour screen Nokia? The 7210 or 6610 aren't bad and have Java out of the package :)
Hmmm but if someone knows how to do it, i have a 5130 and would also like Java on it :))
By the way, even the Siemens was after the mod still black/white.........

That's bad. But i would need it for apps not games. And except java sending flash sms and other nice sms (You've got a voice message, you'vo got e-mail, you've got FAX) directly from the phone would be a nice thing. If anyone knows something about it please help me. Thanks

Dear, the 6510 unfortunately does NOT support such features like blinking (flashing) SMS or "system messages". However there is software available (i have few such programs, but can't remember where i got them from... try google) which let's you create this type of messages on the PC, and send them by your phone. The catch is that you need to know what the receiving phone is. Because this (the actual blinking of words or whole messages) works only with certain phones, i.e. older Nokia's such as 3210, 3310, 3315, 82xx etc, and some (didn't test that myself, just heared about it) Siemens like the c25. However to get those messages sent you need to connect your 6510 to the PC via a cable or IrDA. the messages can be sent and also stored in the phone's memory with no problem, only the effect (blinking etc) won't work on it.
By the way, as far as i know, ALL new Nokia's don't support these features anymore! 8310, 6510, 8910 and 6610 tested myself... no avail.
To find software easily, go to www.google.com and search for things like "flashing SMS editor" etc.... good luck!

errr... you guys may not have realised but the newer nokia's are DCT4's (or level 4's) and the software is NOT modifiable as the flash is encrypted, the CPU's work on a different principle to normal.
as for java in a 6510 try flashing it with a 6310 flashfile, apparently this works and the 6310 supports java.
