How to configure HyperTerminal to work with my Nokia 6510? I always get a message on my phone "device incompatabile".

Hi GL1zdA,
The biggest obstacle for the 6510i or any IrDA phone for that matter is that you need a virtual COM port.
To get this virtual ir port you'll need an IRCOMM driver that allows hyperterminal to talk to the phone as if it was a COM port.
(the short end of a long stick is that M$ changed the way the IRDA device is supported in Win2k. You'll notice that there aren't any virtual ir com ports in the device manager).
Have a look at this article from MS.
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q252/7/95.asp
Or you can go to http://www.ircomm2k.de/
This I use myself and it seems to work quite well.
Once you've got your virtual com port give Hyperterminal the following settings:
Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware
Try typing 'ATI1' and pressing return (no quotes). You'll see your IMEI.

David.

Hi all,
I Need help,
I just build datacable converter for my 6110 nokia, I used max232, and it's work with oxygen sms manager software,(Fbus mode only)
but don't work with hyperterminal,
the setting for the com1 port are: 115200, 8n1,
I can't not write any character to the hyperterminal window,
when I unplug the datacable from the phone, and conecting the Fbusrx and Fbustx, anything I type will shown to the windows of hyperterminal,
Why, I can't use hyperterminal to access the phone?

Hi,
Just some of my ideas:
I recall, for using TE program with Nokia, U had to have NCDS, Nokia Commander Data Suite (virtual?) com port driver installed.
It did not work like mbus/fbus which U could use directly to the real windows comport.
Also, after typing on the screen, U had to confirm to 'send' the command U just typed with Cntrl^Z, before U have the opportunity to receive the response from the phone.
And the last idea I have is that the speed U chosen is quite high.
Try 9600 bps, like mentioned, the amount of data U gonna send or receive will hardly be noticeable in means of speed.
Hopefully it's of some help for U, while last time I tried this was about 4 years ago. :)
