Aftermath of installation of programs

Hey ppl.. whenever i finished installing a application. there will be always be an extra similar naming application file under the application folder.... so issit possible that i delete one of them so as not to waste the memory space.. but after i delete one of it.. the application is not working.. :(

anyone can enlighten me?
