Hiya everyone

Ok we often chat about IMEI changing and the likes and say how the operators can "detect" when two phones have the same IMEI number... It may be me being silly but erm how about we make a little test to see to what extent they can do..... ;)

I for one have an orange sim and several spare fones
i can leave the sim in the fone 24/7 and post the imei here and if anyones interested they can change their imei to mine and see how long it takes ORANGE to block it :p

You may find this kind of stupid but i think it'd be interesting, as im sure the operators are far too busy to go looking for several similar imei numbers but hey this'll answer all questions :)
Or we could generate a nokiafree imei and several people use it
leave their fones on 24/7 - maker sure no calls are made and see where we end up???

Anybody game??? ;)

I just thought, we really need people on the same network in the same country, do we not??
Do you think it will still work with peeps in a different country or different network??

I have wondered about what happens when two phones share the same IMEI...

Cause if the IMEI is blocked, this can be a good trick if you want to be evil: Steal someone's IMEI, and change your phone's IMEI to it!

Thats ok guys, but be very careful the networks dont block your sim card, as they do have the power to do this!!!

I know of a guy with a UK o2 sim being blocked and closed down.........o2 refused to unblock it, so he had to buy a new sim and have a new number

ok nice one guys

but yes we NEED to test this properley i think phones of the same network in the same country... :)

I have a 3210 - ORANGE - UK SIM CARD
IMEI is: 448896886909341

Please anyone in the ***UK*** with a spare ORANGE sim (that may "possibly" get blocked in the process) place it in a phone flash a virgin eeprom to it - change the imei to 448896886909341 and keep it switched on at all times.

At the first sign of block-adge please post in this thread - should be interesting i presume :p

Ok my phone is online with the above imei on ORANGE in the UK

at --> 12:00 - 13th May 2003 :grin:

About the different countries maybe we CAN do some experimentation.... for example if my imei gets blacklisted will others in different countries be also????

This is going to be fun ;)

Cheers for all the supprt

:( i can't do it here :( they don't block imei's in my country, so there is no reason to get into the process:cry:
they don't have an anti-theft project here
we're left behind...

Would it be better if someone makes a full backup flash of the phone then we would all have exactly the same settings

liteFun

because it's only imei that matters..
easier if all change only imei with eg. knokphoenix to same, and for faster results in same country and same operator :)

slikmik

Yes no need to go round downloading flashes as litefun said its only the imei we're bothered about

if anyone gets any calls from orange or gets fone barred it'll be quite interesting :)

So how many people got phones set up and where abouts are you in the UK???

Im in Manchester

Mike

P.s. As another experiment in 2 weeks (when i get payed ;)) i shall purchase the relevant hardware to clone my sim and see if i get caught or not - just a bit of experimentation :p

perfectly fine for more than 1 phone to have same imei.
first generation samsung a300 imei clips made all phones done have same imei (think how many phones this is...)

also some new phones released are using already existing imei numbers. i read that anyway.

what goes pop? usually a cap :)
