I think change the 8250 to 2100 is not useful.
cos 8250 price is valuable than 2100.

Right, I have now flashed my 8210 (rom6) to a 2100.
The phone works and I can make calls and use the features,
BUT I need to fix the screen, you can only see the one corner and it is back to front.
Does anyone know where I can get a higher resolution screen that will fit into my 8210 with not too much hastle??

cheers,
Danny!

Just wondering, what size is the 5210, would that work with the 2100 software??
It will fit into the 8210 shell, I think it looks the same size!

If anyone knows the pinouts to the 5210 and 2100 LCD's please post them so I can experiment with this screen thing!

I've try connect every pin with diffirent connection, and found that it didn't work, because 8250 board have 9 connection pin but 2100 LCD only have 8 connection pin.

So, it is not working at all.

If smartcity88 have any solution, please post here, don't just telling fool to others.

danwood76

Out of interest where did you get your 2100 LCD from??
It should work but obviously one of the pins is not needed!

If you have a 2100 test each pin with a multimeter whilst its on and mach the voltages etc up to the 8250!

I will ask again!
Has anyone got 2100 schematics or service manuals??

Mr NokiaPhreak
Please try to connect the 2100 LCD on the 8210 PCB with the way
which appear in the bellow image.

Note
The number 6 pin of 8210 PCB not needed.

Please inform me with the result.Good luck.

I tried to flash my 8250 with 2100 flash file but I get contact service. Any help? Normally if I flash a 2100 I get contact service too but once I do a full factory reset, everything will turn fine but not with 8250.

Make sure you flash the eeprom to the correct address!
Read the flash back off the phone and then fix checksums and reflash!

Thanks mate! I actually found out that my 8250 have a problem. Whenever I flash 2100 flash to the phone and I wanna update Faid and clear sp lock, it always fail and yet my security code is always ????? sign. I used another phone to try and it worked! Now I have another problem. I cannot change the Imei. I m using Noktool 1.8. Whenever I change the Imei to a diff one yet it will return to the same imei. The 2100 Flash I download from an original 2100 set. FullFlash. Any idea?

10-06-2003, 04:59 AM
Right, we have confirmation of a success, now...

1) Does the 2100 LCD then screw down to the pcb?

2) What cover will fit it regarding buttons?

3) Looking at the pics, I'm assuming we discard the elastomer and solder to the pins!?

Ming
10-06-2003, 09:07 AM
Right! It worked for me and I m kind of satisfied with it.

I m using the original 8250 lcd frame. Only the Lcd I have to use 2100 lcd. I did abit of modification on the frame esp on the lcd area. I have to cut a hole on the plastic frame that hold the lcd in order to let the cable go behind. If not then the lcd will look dark due to the light been blocked by the cable. The soldering have to be very little else if there are bumbs it will affect the lcd by make "black dots" on the lcd. Since the original 8250 frame is used then I believe the housing is not a problem. And yeah, lcd connector you can keep it in the fridge for later use if you wanna turn back your 8250 to the original 8250 flash! :D Sorry for my poor english!

Wish you guys luck!

The only problem I facing now is I cannot change the Imei! Hope sumone can help me with this! Thanks!

Ming

BTW, I m still not sure if it worked for all 8250 cos the first 8250 I tried and it failed. I m not sure whether if my 1st 8250 have a problem or not cos i been using it for quite awhile and it didn't give me much of a problem. The only thing I notice which is diff from the 1st and the 2nd phone is that the Flash IC is different. The second phone have a flash IC with a BIG I word (I dunno how to name them, sorry) and the 1st is like the normal flash IC which you see in 8210 (without the I). This is only my thoughts and I m not sure of it. And erm...I think for 8210 with ROM5 will not work. (Maybe).

Cheers!

aRoH
10-06-2003, 07:38 PM
Mr Ming there is not problem with Flash IC (The BIG I means that this IC is made from intel and it's the same with the else which is made from sharp).Actually the conversion depend on from the CPU.Try to follow step by step the next tutorial:

Convert 8210(only ROM6),8250 to 2100

Flash MCU+PPM from Nk2100 (version 5.11 or higher) to your phone at address 00200000-003F0000 with Rolis 478b6 as Nokia 8210 (don't be afraid for the warnings)

then flash a 2100 virgin EEPROM at address 003F0000-00400000 (you have to put the address manual) also with Rolis 478b6 (don't be afraid for the warnings)

after that switch on your phone and with nokia tool by Rolis V1.8 reset everything, set your original IMEI and update fade

then switch off your phone and with Rolis 478b6 make a Full Backup and save it to your hard disk

then with g3n0lite v1.7 open the Full Backup fix all checks and save it again to your hard disk

then put again the new Full Backup to your phone

at the end switch on your phone and with nokia tool by Rolis V1.8 reset everything, update fade and clear SP Locks if needed

this is the best way to change the IMEI

Good luck

Note
First make Full Backup from your phone (I mean before the conversion)

Many thanks to Mr demlak and Mr Kormoranos.

Thanks aRoH! Your info was brief.

What I did was this: I make a FULL backups from a 2100 ie. MCU + PPM + EEPROM. I flash it to my 8250 and I get contact service. So I reset with rolis 1.8. Everything went fine. The conversion was successful. The problem is the Original Imei will be the same as the 2100 where I make a full backup from. So no matter how I try changing the Imei its still the same. I did try your way by after the conversion, i make full backup of the flash and fix all checks with Genolite 1.7 and flash it back. Again I tried to change the Imei with rolis 1.8. Still the same, Imei wont change and infact I get no signal, even after I update FAID.

Or maybe I need totally new virgin eeprom? Where can I get them? Any links?

aRoH : Have you tried the conversion and change Imei before? I have tried your ways but only the Imei changing didnt work for me or maybe somthing that I miss out? Guess I have no luck!

Thanks again!

Right!
Can't wait to upgrade BUT I need an LCD!

Would a nokia shop be able to get it for me, the 2100 hasn't been officially released hear I don't think!

Anyone able to get them delivered to the UK?

Ming
12-06-2003, 01:42 AM
I have tested with the virgin eeprom, no luck! Still unable to change the Imei.

danwood76
13-06-2003, 01:46 PM
Make sure you have have recorded the eeprom to the correct addresses, if you haven't the flash won't work!
Double check that the eeprom checksums are correct!
Use the Nfree tool to check these chksums!

GeeZuZz
13-06-2003, 05:06 PM
Is it only possible with ROM6 phones? Are you sure?

danwood76
13-06-2003, 06:23 PM
Yes it is only ROM6 as the 8250 is a ROM6 phone and only the 8210 ROM6 versions can be converted to a 8250,
I haven't tried a ROM5 but I doubt it would work as you would probably need a higher CPU as the 2100 is quite a new phone!

Ming
14-06-2003, 05:44 AM
The address eeprom starts a 3f0000 and ends at 400000 rite? Double check eeprom checksum? Only eeprom or along in a full flash? Can anyone give me abit of tutorial about NFREE? cos I tried this software quite sumtime ago and it didn't seemed quite friendly to me and it didn't work well. Thanks!

@Danwood76

I was also wondering about the similarities of the 5210! I can find very little differences other then the screen pins! Keep me posted, i'd like to hear of any success! Also you can purchase 2100 screens here in Oz! Maybe you can find someone that sells them!?;)

danwood76
16-06-2003, 08:45 AM
I'm still searching for a supplier, I think I have found one on the net but I am not sure if it's the right LCD just waiting for a reply to my e-mail I sent to the site.
The 5210 is very similar but I think it has a larger flash IC??
or thats what someone said in a previous post!

Ming
16-06-2003, 09:08 AM
Yep! 5210 has a larger memory. I have tested 4 8250 conversion. 1 failed, 2 manage with the conversion but failed to change the imei and the last one successfully changed the imei. Dun ask me how did I do it cos I also not very sure what I did! LOL! All I notice is that after flash the 8250 with a 2100 flash (A virgin 8250 with no upgraded or flashed b4. 1st flash with 2100v541 partial flash then flash again the virgin eeprom) and b4 trying to change Imei, I read the phone and it gave me imei like ????????????4. Then I was able to change the Imei to what ever I wan but if the Imei read is a normal Imei then I have to stick to that Imei and cannot be changed. If I did, it only tell me Imei changed failed and I get no network. Weird!

But how to connect the LCD to the PCB???

Ming
28-07-2003, 01:54 AM
srisawats: The possibility of your problem maybe due to you are using the wrong lcd or wrong wiring.

pinto: Use thin coated wires and solder them from the lcd to the pcb. The diagram is in this forum, pls do take some time to look for it.

Cheers!

And if I take the 2100 LCD from the frame, and put into the 8210 frame I will dont need to wiring?
Or this way dont work?

johnny_liang
28-07-2003, 06:04 PM
I did it, convert 8250 into 2100 I promised I will upload step by step about doing this

Ming
29-07-2003, 01:39 AM
Pinto: Yes you need to wire from the lcd to the pcb. 8250 lcd is connected by a lcd connector (Elastomer or sumthing I forgot the name) to the pcb. 2100 lcd was attached with a Flexicable (if the name is correct) and the lcd connector for 8250 cant do the job so definitely you need to do the wiring. The 2100 lcd frame doesnt fit the 8250 pcb for the keypad structure is not the same so you have to use back the 8250 lcd frame and that you need to do abit of modification on the 8250 lcd frame. Did you see theres a plastic transparent lcd holder at the back of the 8250 lcd? This is what I did, I cut a rectangular hole at the lcd connector area in order to let the 2100 lcd flexicable to go thru then after that I do the wiring. Thats my way of modification. If you have a better solution do tell us.

Cheers!

johnny_liang
01-08-2003, 07:41 PM
May be I can only described how to made it (My 3650 was sent to Nokia service Center since 12/07/03) You just replace your 8250 with 2100 lcd then on 8250 back plastic frame just cut it from elastomer place to the side of the frame and now you can pull your 2100 flexy cable out from there then put the plastic frame back with the front frame now just wired it then screw through your 8250 pcb I will send the picture soon or if some1 else just made it please upload the Image too thanks
