Hi I'm new to this but I'm hoping that someone out there can help me. I lost my nokia 3510i and thinking it was stolen, reported it as stolen to O2 and they barred it. However, I then found my phone and now want to unbar it, change the IMEI code, or something. I asked O2 and they said they'd only do it for a very high fee, which seems unfair to me so I thought I'd try to do it myself first. Please, please can someone help me?!!

Just want to point out that changing your IMEI number is illegal (at least in UK and most other countries(?))

The reason O2 are charging a high price is to stop people simply claiming that they "found" their "own" mobile..i.e. it's cheaper to go buy another mobile than unbar one...if you see what I mean.

Most software will have the "change imei" option removed on it, but you could probably find back versions or software that hasn't been updated since it became illegal to change IMEI numbers.

As I said, it's illegal to do, so I can't really tell you any more.

But I suppose I wish you Gluck :)

Bob

<EDIT>P.S. How much are they charging just outta interest?</EDIT>

nokia 3510i is a dct4 phone. you cannot change it's imei with software, only by getting a new chip with a new imei.

the imei of dct4 phones is programmed on a one-time-programmable chip that cannot be changed. if you want to change your imei you'll have to buy a new chip and replace the current one.
this is expensive and dengerous to your phone, and of course - it will void the warranty.

i don't you should do it but you asked if it's possible so i gave you the answer ;)

p.s.
they may notice that you changed the imei and block both your imei and your simcard.

and b.t.w, how much do they charge for unbarring the phone?

Thanks Yotamz,

For some reason I didn't notice the 3510i thingme :S, I assumed it was a dct3 phone...for some reason. :)

Cheers for clearing it up!
