It update your firmware to the latest version the best and easiest way is with a griffin box. Costs about $350 12 cables and code calc inculded and good support.

Your cable is only used for phone memory operations such as uploading ringtones and pictures and backing up phone book etc.

In short the best way is to take it to a service center and get them to do it.

@qprafferty

Hello :)
You seem to know a LOT about this software stuff.... I have a question which is maybe misplaced, but i have read thru the forum and found many answers which partly say very different things about the same subject. I have a 6610 also, it is version 4.18 and it's bug (you probably know) is, that when someone assigned to a caller group rings, the lights stay off, making it impossible in darkness to see who is calling.
Now, do you know what is the latest version of firmware for the 6610, or maybe 7210 as they seem to be the same? In this version, is that bug removed? Are there any "new" features (such as the animated menu's in my BF's 7250)? I heared about the "4.74" version has a "better memory management"... does it mean that there is more memory for the user? And, last question, i need the asian version of this.... (need thai SMS functionality), is this included in the flash, or do DCT-4 phones have the actual languafe package separate and just upgrading the version does not affect this?
Please do not get me wrong, i am a hardware guy and i stand on the principle "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" and yet my phone runs well beside that "light" bug, and i am not keen in flashing, can't do it myself (no equipment) and i know that if someone does something rong with flashing, my phone can be damaged. The Nokia-Service here refuses to do upgrades, only in cases when the phone REALLY does not work, and even then it cost a heck of money to get it done. No free service in Thailand :...(
Thank you very much in advance, any answer is highly appreciated!
Your Thanh...

Woah Info overload

Question 1 (4.18) Fixed

No new visable feature (no ani menus)

6610 is the same as 7210

Better memory management yes 4.72 had less memory for the user than 3.09 4.74 corrected this bug

I don't know about support for Thai SMS if its in the other new nokias it will be in the 6610

when you upgrade the phone you have to change the MCU and PPM to the same version

4.74 is the latest version (27/05/03)

My principle is if it works what can I do to make it work better.

Hope this helps I was a bit difficult to read/understand your post as it was all in one big block. If not we can "talk" some more.

Hey thanks a lot, friend!
You helped me a lot with this information.... Sorry if i wrote in a hard-to-understand manner, english is also not my native language :)
Now i understand a bit more about the versions, and yes, my 6610 is thai-enabled (i bought it here in Bangkok, it is an asian model).
I am just to scared to let someone flash it and then get it back and have some more errors like now.... like my 3310 which was flashed to be a 3315, worked fine but since then it drained the battery in just 2 days, as a 3310 it was roughly a week in standby.... i want to avoid that, and only because of the light thing i would not flash it as it else woirks fine :)
Again, thanks a lot for clearing me up.....
your Thanh

Hi cprafferty,
Somebody told me that although both 6610 and 7210 are identical, the 7210's CPU is much faster than 6610's. Is it true? How much difference does it make?

Bullshit

I flash my 6610 with a 7210 and guess what it worked.

Also I have checked the boards and they are exactly the same.

But why there is a lot of rate difference between 7210 and 6610? 7210 costs Rs 20,000.00 and 6610 costs Rs 16,000.00.

i think both of them are the same, they even share the same service manual. the 7210 costs more than 6610 in india? funny how phone prices go, the 6610 is more expensive than 7210 here in malaysia. i guess thats because the ppl here prefer the 6610 over 7210, i see more ppl using the 6610, 7210 is rare.

Maybe that is the reason 7210 is expensive here in India. It is a rage here and you will find it in abundance. Although 7250 has cut down it's sale by too much but if you compare 6610 with 7210, 6610 stands nowhere in terms of sales in front of 7210.

@hoyas

What I meant by

"4.74 is the latest version (27/05/03)"

should be "4.74 is the latest version (as of 27/05/03)"

Its to stop people being petty minded when a new version is released so they can't say "cprafferty you are wrong the latest version is X.XX"

Ok

@hoyas

I am not having a go at you. Just correcting myself and to stop confusion.
