View Full Version : Netmonitor #6 - Forbidden networks
I have a 3410 on T-Mobile (pay as you go), after unlocking I can obviously insert any sim card.
Looking at Netmonitor #6 I have the following forbidden networks:
23433 (Orange UK), 23415 (Vodaphone UK), 23410 (O2 UK)
Where are these "forbidden networks" programmed, or are they being read? From where?
Could someone who has unlocked their phone take a look at their forbidden networks and post results?
(The preferred networks are on the left hand side, your network is the first, the other three are normally your network in other countries...the forbidden networks are on the right as a list)
Cheers

The forbidden networks are networks that the SIM card can't access.
Try it if yourself, use the option to manually select a network say ornage with a vodafone SIM the message no allowed appears.
The forbidden networks are networks that the SIM card can't access.
Ah cheers, I thought it was what the phone couldn't access.
Do these forbidden networks change if I go to another country?
I.e. out of all the network codes, are only these three UK ones forbidden, or if I go to another country, will a new set of three pop up?
Cheers

no its sim card dependent so if u have a virgin sim it will say all other are not allowed and if u have a orange sim in it will say all others are fobided ECT ECT get it now
the only way it would say all allowed is if u made your own simcard containing all network providers in your country
Cheers,
I may just do that :D

and those can be erased too.
i bought one motorola couple years ago, only for wap.
it has menu to edit preferred networks, and in my test it erased everything when i selected other finnish networks than the one sim-card used :)
i changed sim-card to nokia to see it, and noticed that it tried those networks but placed them automatically to right side.
i'm not sure what else that motorola is capable to do, but i can anytime reset network list from my sim-card with that, and also program some networks to use if i go to other country.

Hey guys,
Sorry for the question, but I don't know about NetMonitor. What is NetMonitor and how can I use it with 6610 and 7250 for my advantage?

you dont.
its a diagnostic tool, not for hacking networks.
if you really want to know, search google for nokia netmonitor manual and download te 0.95 version..

Thanks cjard...Too much technical stuff...
Can I use IrDA to access NetMonitor?
@Litefun
sorry you confused me mate :)

So how does that work? Are you saying with a pay as you go simcard you can access other networks?
E.g. I have a T-Mobile sim card, does that mean I can access Orange (for example), or can access a French network when in France other than French T-Mobile?
Would you then pay Orange by buying a topup card? or...
Just unconfuse me please ;)
@yjagota
Netmonitor is only a diagnostic tool, you probably have no use for it...however if you're interested (and are careful), enable it. I don't know how to do it on those phones (those are dct4 no?)

the provider that gives you the simcard programs some networks (ex: competetive networks) in the forbidden networks list.
the forbidden networks list is a list of networks that the phone will not try to connect to when searching networks automatically, because it already "knows" that it doesn't have access to them, this makes the network search process go faster.
so, if you put a t-mobile simcard in your phone, orange will be listed in the forbidden networks so the phone will not try to connect to it.
but, this list doesn't have to be programmed by the operator, if your phone scans for networks, and it tries to connect to a network it finds, and get denied, the phone itself will add this network to the forbidden list, so it won't try to connect to it again.
if you want to force the phone to connect to a network that is listed as "forbidden", you just have to do a manual network search and choose a network from the list.
well, that's all about "forbidden networks" :)
hope you find this information useful ;)

an orange pay as you go sim, is just like any other orange sim. but if you have a t-mobile you sim, you may have access to orange in another country, that depends on the roaming agreements made by operators.
for example, here in Israel orange and cellcom, which are competetive networks, both have agreement with uk orange. so even if i'm using a cellcom simcard, i will have access to orange in the uk.

@yjagota
currently the way of activating netmonitor in dct4 phones is not known. but, it is possible to activate netmonitor on dct3 phones with irda, so i believe that it will be possible for dct4 too.
@Yotamz
Cheers that cleared that up.
It would a lot better if a sim card could simply be used with any network..but I guess companies have to compete for our hard earned cash...
(Life is never fair)

an iRDA connection to a phone can be used to enable the net monitor, yes. Use logomanager if in doubt..

Thanks again cjard... I got it working with IrDA...
@bobl
U were right, it's too much technical and is of little use to me...
@yjagota
I assume you didn't get it working on your 7250 right, just your dct3 phone? :)
Yeh, a lot of technical stuff, not much use really, but I advise you take a peek at
20/21/22/23
All about batteries, very useful in terms of charging :)

(If you got netmonitor on a dct4 phone to work, that'd be incredibly interesting :) )

I have got it working with 8310 and I don't know that is it DCT 3 or 4 but i'll try it with my 6610 and 7250 both (which i know that both are DCT 4) and will tell you that is it woking or not.

8310 is dct4.

Then it should work with 6610 and 7250 too.

Well one of you is wrong ;)?
If yjagota has got it working on a dct4 phone then it is known :)?

-OFFTOPIC-
in netmonitor test 133 you can see how many times you have full charged your phone and how many times it has been charging.
i took eeprom from 3310, edited those hex data, put it back but no, it didn't clear timers...
maybe them are XORed too..

-IN TOPIC- (almost)
in my country there is a new network, Q-Telecom (202 09), that doesn't have any antennas so it's co-operating with vodafone for the signal. now, in the allowed nets list there is the net 202 05 (vodafone GR) twice.
oh, and if i want to change the operator logo, i have to tell logomanager that it is 202 05 (which is auto-detected), but in order to lock the sim, i have to type 202 09, to get it locked. how can this happen?

@User32
the two vodafones you have are:
the first one is the last network the phone logged in to.
the second one is a preferred network.
now, 202 09 is wirtten on the sim, because it belongs to that network, but it has 202 05 as preferred network. preferred network is a network that the phone will connect to if it can't find it's home network.
so if you want to lock the phone to the sim you have to lock it to the sim's home network (202-09), but it's always connected to vodafone (because the home network doesn't have antennas), so it has vodafone's operator logo, and logomanager detects the network you are connected to at the moment.
