What I mean is that when you insert the battery or plug in the charger the screen/backlight blinks on & off,
anyone have any idea's of whether this problem could be software or hardware related?

Cheers!!

No it's just the outside screen that flashes the inside one stays blank, It's as if there isn't enough power to power up the phone.

I have tried a battery from another working phone & same effect!!

It isn't half an annoying problem!!

Sounds like a hardware problem, Right not to far from you is John at COMPLETE (http://www.completegsm.com) give him a call and ask if he can do a software upgrade on the phone and see if that helps if not then it's off to the service center for them to have a look at which is going to cost a few quid.
Has the phone been dropped or had some water on it?

I've done some research into the problem & downloaded the Nokia 9210 service manual, the screen flashes 3 times in a loop which apparently indicates a memory/software fault.

I also found a company called gizmo-direct and gave them a call this morning, they reckoned that all that would be needed would be a reflash of the phone & said £24.95 job done,

So I'll post results!!

@lonegunman:-

thanks for the suggestion I will bear it in mind, I purchased the phone over ebay as faulty & don't know about the history of the phone, water or otherwise!!!
