Irc???

Can somebody please explain to me exactly what are IRC channels and how do you access them
eg. Channel #nokia7650 on IRC

ok, so I need to download a programme to my phone correct?? I tried wireless IRC but it gave me an error on my 3650..maybe it's not compatible to mmc..... do I use gprs to connect? I ask this because I only pay 6 euro for gprs per month

I've got WirelessIRC and found it will only work from the phone memory. I use GPRS and had to configure an internet access point (not WAP).
