View Full Version : what locks are covered through L1 to L7?
Does anyone have an explanation of each of the 7 remote unlocking codes?
This has been covered several times before but I'll still manage to get it wrong I am sure!:
Lock 1 - MCU+MMU
Lock 2 - GID1 Lock
Lock 3 - GID2 Lock
Lock 4 - Sim specific Lock
There are only four locks, however codes 5-7 do the following:
Code 5 - Unlock 1 and 2
Code 6 - Unlock 1, 2 and 3
Code 7 - Unlock 1, 2, 3 and 4 (I.E. Master Unlock)
Looks good to me. Maybe it could be a part of the Newbie FAQ area, or added to a how-to for entering the codes.

Lock 7 will not work on all Orange phones try 5 for UK Orange, 7 seems to work on the rest in the UK.
Minor points guys, there is no *lock* 7 as I said.
With a topic as confusing as this (:P) remember to use the correct terms:
Locks 1 - 4
Codes 1 - 7
Code 7 should always work, but if it doesn't then use Code 5 (unlocks lock 1 and 2).

the first lock is MCC+MNC.
the fourth lock (sim specific lock) is MSIN lock.
...just for the information. :)
@Yotamz
So I got the TLAs wrong (Three letter acronyms)...stfu :D :D
Seriously though thank you for correcting that.
Lock 1 - MCC+MNC (Network and Country)
Lock 2 - GID1 Lock
Lock 3 - GID2 Lock
Lock 4 - MSIN Lock (Sim specific Lock)
Any more corrections :P

Good info, but what is GID1 and GID 2? What are these locks for?
I believe there are locks to certain types of Sims (Prepaid/Contract etc)
Although that may just be GID1...anyone else care to confirm/correct?

GID1 is for locking the phone to a certain simcard type, like bobl said, but i don't know what is the use of GID2.
i've read some info about the locks in many sites, but i never found an explanation of what is gid2. besides that, i've never seen a phone with lock 3 closed, and i've never heard of a network that uses this lock.
Yep, I should have said this. It would be really mean for a NSP to close all the locks and I have never seen lock 3 closed.
To be honest I would just forget about GID2, it never seems to be used.
Cheers
