I am looking to unlock my Siemens S40. I boughtt it on ebay when my knowledge about SIM SP locks was zip. It is Cingular phone out in Canada where there is no Cingular service.

After gleaning through the NokiaFree forums I have come to the following understanding.

1) The S40 with version upto 5.0 can be unlocked using software

2) Software vesion higher than 5.0 can be unlocked using the Logger to read and posting the log file on this forum and somebody will be kind enough to provide a map file to be written on to the phone.

3) Software versions lower than 8.0 or 9.0 are fairly buggy.

4) Unlocking the S40 requires a data cable for using both the software and the logger

5) Flashing new software can be done using the data cable

Please correct me if any of this is wrong.

Now some questions.

1) Someone posted the S40 Wokshop on this for download. In the "About" of the software it says it can unlock all known versions. Does this include the 8.0 and 9.0?

2) Which OS should I be using when running the unlocking software or the logger. I have access to Windows 95 and Windows 2000 machines. A friend said he could get me access to a Windows 98 machine.

3) Is the flashing cable and the data cable the same for Siemens S40. I understand that teh Flasher cable for Nokia phones are connected through the paralle post instead of the COM port.

This has been a great forum to learn a lot of new stuff.

Thank You
Paul
