i've actually been trying that. i've had no luck. :(

flashing 3310 v5.47 onto a 3390 causes the phone to not start up. the lights on the phone turn on but there is no display and no response to any keypresses.

does anyone know if this is due to hardware differences between the 3390 and the 3310, or is my phone not turning on a software problem?

i thought the only difference between the 3390 and 3310 was the GSM frequency they operate on. :rolleyes:

does anyone here have any experience with 3390 phone flashing? i'm trying to get my hands on different PPMz for it. all i have is a v7.03 PPM-A and v7.13&v7.14 PPM-B. i wanna get my hands on a PPM with chinese included. :D

help is appreciated.

hi!

i guess it's hw differences. i've experienced that kind of hang when i tried converting a 8210 to 8250 and the 8210 was a rom5.

thanks for the reply

Of course this wont work. 3315/10 is a Euro phone for different GSM. Also 3390's eeprom is emulated in flash so if you flash the full flash then you also overwrite the eeprom with incorrect frequency/connection data. What I would like to see is 3390 (and 3390 gold) to 3395 conversion. Is that phone out yet?

I too dream of a 3390(gold or reg) to 3395 also!

Is it possible to flash a regular 3390 to a 3390 gold?
Does the aim menu mean it has different hardware or not?
At the voicestream store the lady clamed it was for sure different but hey they never know what they are talking about. Then again thats why I have free SMS/AIM/EMAIL for life.

(Loophole = VoiceStream Preapid never charges for outgoing sms/aim/email even after youve been out of minutes for months.)

Thanks!

@green gerbil

i've been messing around with mixing 3390 and 3310 flash files to get them to work on my 3390 but still no luck. its has to be possible to get the MCU of the 3310 to work on the 3390. it just takes the right editing. :D

i've tried 3310 full flashes, MCU+PPM, and just MCU all cause a no boot. :(

i know the 3395 is out. check the posts on HOWARDFORUMS.

@ryan80
the 3390 i'm trying to convert is a ROM5. is that the cause of the problem? :confused:
i have another 3390 that is a ROM6. do you think it would work with that phone? i'm reluctant to go flashing it though, since it is the phone that i use, and i wouldn't want to kill it. my ROM5 3390 has reception problems, so its my flashing guinea pig! :D

@ande
i don't believe a 3390 to a 3390 gold is possible. i've tried the flash that green gerbil had posted on another thread. my phone didn't even power up. i've used his full flash, and i have also tried flashing only the MCU and the MCU+PPM. i'm certain that the hardware on the 3390 and 3390 gold is different.

does anyone here know how to convert BMPz to nokia hex data or know of a program that does it?

i've tried using flashgraphic to edit the startup logo but when i try to save the modified flash, it doesn't save the changes i made. :mad:

however, i can change my start up logo from the FIDO logo to the default NOKIA one and a few other service provider logos that i have the hex data for.

@PhreeZ

Try to use the NokHex 1.00.

Im not sure but 3390 gold might be rom 6 and thats why the old 3390 soft doesnt work on gold and vice versa. I tried 7.03 flashes on my 3390 gold before and it gives DSP bootup errors. But 3390 gold to 3395 might be possible because they are probably both rom 6. Seeing how many problems there are getting actual 3390 flashes then I think getting the 3395 one will take a long time to find. I have also previously changed the startup logo to the logo of another by copying and pasting in the WUGSDATA, but after that the phone has no service :(.

god damn FAID.

@green gerbil

to check the rom version of your phone use NokiaTool 1.8 by rolis.

have you actually tried flashing 3310 v5.47 on to your phone? did your phone at least boot up?

if your phone did boot up, i'll probably try flashing my rom6 3390 with 3390 gold and 3310 firmware and see if it boots. i'm really reluctant to go messing around with it because it is the phone i use. :(

i finally decided to go flash my ROM6 3390. :p

i finally figured a way to insert any bitmap into the WUGS data of the PPM. Thank you FlashGraphic! i can now get any start up logo i want. the signal of my phone is fine after updating the FAID. :)

now if only i could get it animated. anyone have any ideas on how to animate the startup logo on the 3390?

@green gerbil
what program did you use to calculate the FAID after you changed your WUGS? i use NokiaTool 1.8 and it worked fine.

i also tried flashing your 3390 gold firmware still with no luck. no power at all. so its probably not a matter of the DSP ROM version. there is definately hardware differences between the 3390 and 3390 gold. :mad:
it woulda been sweet to get AIM on my phone. :(
oh well.

what was the error when you flashed it with the gold version? My gold dump has serial numbers 0'd and imei 0'ed you have to fix it after flashing, else it does funky stuff. check with eeprom tools. and how did you ever get falshgraphic to save the file, it never saves changes for me. when I set FAID with nokiatool 1.8 I get no service.
wugs changes might be small enough where you are getting away with it because I remember changing some text only and it working for a little bit till I changed more...

@green gerbil

check your PM.

i don't get an error because my phone doesn't even turn on. i have tried just flashing the MCU+PPM, but the phone still didn't turn on.

flash graphic was sort of funky to get to work. i had to use a 3310 v 5.13 flash file, since it was supported by the program. i then import the bitmap into the flash file and take note of the address it was imported to.

i usually import it into the win #1 area and then save the flash file. i then open the flash file with a hexeditor and go to address 0x0EFB23. highlight and copy 505bytes (0x0EFB23 - 0x0EFD1B). it should be the imported bmp as hex data.

after exploding the MCU+PPM for my phone, i open the WUGS and paste the hex data, overwriting the start up logo for my operator. my operator's start up logo starts at 0x0035 of the WUGS.

i start up PPMManager, and open up my exploded MCU+PPM flash. i update the checksums and saved the flash. flash it to my phone, update faid and everything works fine.

FAID calculation for 3390 gold might be different. :(
