first off a big HI to every1

right, i found a 7210 recently :D, been working fine for about a month with my sim card in, all of a sudden when i turn it on it says 'sim card registation failed' and with a different sim card on a diffrent network it registers but you cannot make a call or receive a call just send txt's

following this i have baught a data cable for the phone and vaugly read somewere that i need to change the serial number of the phone, is this right?

anyway, i have tried a few programs and none of them can seem to recognise that the phone is plugged in, is this because im on Win XP? if so how can i fix this?

all help appriecated

the reason you can't use the phone is because it's barred. you found it (like you say), and when the owner found out that he lost his phone, he called the service provider and they barred it.

now if you want to use the phone you have to change it's serial number (=change it's IMEI).

in older models like 3310 you could just use a program and change the IMEI in seconds, but for newer models like 7210 you have to replace a chip inside the phone, called UEM chip, and then program it with a software (i think it's called "imei rebuilder"..not sure).

if it matters, it's illegal...and expansive.

but, that's the answer for your question. :)

what software did you use? with which cable?

i know that there may be a problem for some programs to work under windows xp, and to make them work you need a software called "userport" or something like that... i don't know cause i don't have xp..

and..no, there is no way to make the phone work without replacing the UEM chip. only if you have connections with someone that works in the phone company and have access to the barring lists.

i have used nokias software and some logo manager software, it is a serial cable that wedges between the phone and the battery and links using 4 pins to four dots on the pcb of the phone
