Hello :)
I have started various threads asking a lot of questions for one reason... i was unable to get a data cable for my 6610! Now, FINALLY, they are available in Bangkok!!!
And here are my NEXT questions about that! Because: A Nokia cable (DKU-5) original cost roughly the equivalent of 95 us$, that is, 3.990 Baht. It comes with a Nokia CD (drivers).
BUT there are now also available (shortly after original Nokia) copied cables! Pop-Port to USB for 700 Baht (17 us$!) with a CD containing drivers, but that's a copy CD (the guy said, copy of original Nokia CD), or even a Pop-Port to serial cable, with no CD, for 500 Baht (12 us$!!).
Now.... as it seems, the USB one just employs a driver to simulate a new com-port, where the serial one doesn't need that, hence no CD included. Now, will the serial cable work with Nokia data-suite or apps such as MobiMB or Oxygen?
And.... wouldn't that be worth a trade of some sort, i mean, "exporting" those cables, which are obviously "Made in Thailand"..? see the difference 95$-17 (12) $????? Anyone interested?
I don't want to kick off any business here, i have no experience with that, but i might be able to find out the manufacturer of those cables, and then could inform you guys of that. I think it's a business opportunity.
Please advice me someone......
Thanks a lot in advance!
Your Thanh

Hello :)
Yes, i think so, too. I don't know wether this kind of cable (copycat) is available in other countries, i guess not as i read in many places people complain about the price of the original ones...... but i guess when i want to purchase, say, 1000 units directly from the manufacturer, i will get them way cheaper than the guy in that shop sells them. But even when i ask him to supply me with 1000 units, he will be able to do so, and then close his shop (more a "stall" than a shop actually) and go on a 4 weeks holiday from that profit he made. This could be a win-win situation, the only problem is that when i want to export such a mass of goods, i will certainly have to pay some sort of tax for it, and most likely i can't even do it at all as i have no own business registered, and which private person wants to send 1000 cables to another country?? The thai authorities are very strict in regards to "smuggling" and copying of goods. Here the cables aren't the big deal, but the enclosed CD's which are clearly copies of some original, most likely (the guy said so) original Nokia CD's. Well, let's ship 1000 cables w/o CD's and a single CD in a separate letter and you copy it 1000 times? Might work, might not.... as i said, i have no experience with such trading, that is why i ask the opinion of you guys. Besides, i don't want to do anything illegal and also i only want to help others. It is not my nature to make money out of other people by dodgy doings..... The maximum i would do here is to politely ask the guy for the supplier's details or his own rate of discount at bulk numbers, and then post that result here or answer a PM or e-mail. It would then be up to the interested party to make the "deal" with the guy or the supplier or whoever..... and say "Thank you" to me, maybe leave me one cable for free (i can't even afford the cheap one now!).
Kind regards.....
