Hi all,
Quick question, i know that when new software versions are released, network operator names are also updated. Is it possible to edit these myself on the software version I currently have? Eg, edit "One 2 One" so it now says "T-Mobile" ?? What software do i need for this, and what is the procedure? Please help! Cheers.

LogoManager can change the operator text displayed on the screen.

Btw. the real operator names are in PPM (You can edit them manualy, then recalculate all the PPM checksums).

I see... thats what i really want to do. Can you tell me how? How to edit the PPM so can rename network?
Explode flash using PPM manager.
Then find PLMV chunk..into this u can find all operator names..Edit them..(same number of letters).
If u want more letters then u must change chunk lenght in the beggining of the chunk

USE PPM MANAGER 091
THEN EXPORT PPM FILE TO TXT.
SAVE IT AND OPEN WITH NOTEPAD,
I THINK ITS SOMEWHERE IN THAT FILE

May I suggest better and easier option:
Use an operator logo with the text U want.
Far better, the one U intent to change in ppm is overwritten after 2 seconds anyway by some that the operator can have updated to the sim.

Dont like operator logos - just prefer the network name. If someone could write me instruction of how to edit the PPM in order to do this that would be great. Cheers!

hey mate, ever heard of a nice tool called HexEditor?
so just search for the string you want to change in your flashfile (PPM area) and recalculate checksums (mit nfree p.ex.), that's it.
ah and one thingie: beware of the length!

Do the steps i told you.
Then like a text editor cut the word u want and write a new one.
If u use more letters..
for example Original is Orange (6 letters) and u rename to Orangefone
u must selct all and see the lenght of the whole chunk. Then Go to menu of Hex worjshop and use base converter to convert this value to hex value.
Then go to the beggining of the chunk and replace 5th 6th 7th 8th byte with this value.then opehn exploded flash with PPM manager coreect all PPM chechksums with NFREE and PPM CRCs with PPM manager..flash and enjoy

nokdoc is right. The operator text is usually in the sim and it doesnt change. You might as well use a paint program and write the text you want as an operator logo.

sorry mates
these texts bunny spoke about are written in the PPM of the mobile's firmware.
look at the Nokia service bulletins regarding new firmware versions: these texts are updated.
for example, if you look at all newer firmware versions (8210/8850 5.31, 6210 5.56, 3310 5.47) you'll find that the name for 232-03, former A max (max.mobil) is now T-Mobile A, which leads us two the second argument against your thesis: if the operator would have the possibility to update these textes, T-Mobile (former max.mobil in Austria) hadn't had the hassle to urge Nokia to carry out Nokias with updated operator texts.
so please let me know why you came to the thesis saying these textes could be updated by the operator and that they'd be stored in the SIM?

addition:
let's get to the practical side:
I've changed these texts (by the method I've described two posts ago) several times myself and they're not updated by one choosen by the operator himself and (somehow?) transmitted to the SIM.

ok, here you go a practical example: my 3390 gold on voice stream
inside the phone:
in the ppm there is a PLMN list,
it has "VoiceStream" spelled out in text.
I can change VoiceStream to whatever I want.
on the sim:
I have a smartcard terminal so I can communicate with the sim only.
One of the files has "VStream" spelled out in it. This is unchangeable and gives an error if you try to overwrite it.
on the screen:
Guess what it says when the phone finds service? It only says "VStream" and has said the full thing about once when it didnt fully load the sim card (it went away after a little bit).
So where is text loaded from by default? The simcard and not the PLMN list. I assume it is possible for the provider not to have set a name in the simcard but so far I have not seen this. All of the text of course is overwritten by an uploaded operator logo which can be made to say anything you want.

Hi Mr. Leandros,
I only made this suggestion because it was the far easiest solution.
U are right, operators can't write to your ppm directly, however somehow they can write things to sim.
Then there is one that overwrites the one first displayed. (from ppm)
It is some milliseconds but U can notice this.
Grusse.

Yeep What NokDoc says it's right
Here Vodafone before was 276-02 and than send a signal and all
phones {sim} updated with Vodafone
The ppm contains a list of operator names but there is some informations in SIM updated by the network itself, like extra settings:
And if you want to change the txt that says your operator name
is easier way that Logamanager??!!!!!
Just write the name you want and update it at the phone.
Best regards

USE THE GUIDE "CHANGE 'MENU' TO '????'" ON MY SITE. JUST SEARCH 4 ONE2ONE AND CHANGE IT. SAME SORT OF PRINCIPLES.
PPM MANAGER WONT FIND THE OPERATOR NAMES. USE A HEX EDITOR AND KEEP THE CHANGED TEXT THE SAME AMOUNT OF LETTERS AS THE ORIGINAL.
I HAVE DONE THIS WITH ORANGE, AND IT WORKS.
ALSO, GET HEX WORKSHOP (WITH CRACK) FROM MY MIRROR 3.

yeah, ops have write access for the admin areas of the sim, like the operator name, etc. They also have access to similar things on most CDMA phones.
If they stopped firmware upgrades for your handset and havnt updated to include new op names...
just cheat?
find T-Mobile UK attached...
use logomanager to upload, set it to the one2one/t-mobile network setting when you upload and then when you have t-mobile sim in, it will show instead of op name.
I said some post before how u can do it..in any lenght...u can fix it..it is simple..
every operator name is inside PPM

I think I found an easy solution for your problem. As you already noticed the value in the PPM gets overwritten by the value in the SIM. The operator name on the SIM is stored in register 6F46. The operator has the choice of overwriting the name saved in the phone or displaying the SIM-value on a separate line.
Anyway, the size of register 6F46 is 17 bytes which is 11 in hex. Now, in the MCU part of a flash file there are instructions on which registers are to be read and how big they are. The trick is to change the size of register 6F46 from 11 to 00 (which is also 0 in decimal of course). As a result the phone will not read a single byte from that register and therefore display the name stored in its PPM.
All you need is a flash-file for your phone and a hex-editor:
1. Open the flash in the hex-editor
2. Search for the hex-value "6F 46 00 11"
3. Change the the last byte 11 to 00, so it will then read "6F 46 00 00"
4. Save the file
5. Recalculate the MCU Checksum (Rolis' Flasher asks if you want to do so, before it writes the file to the phone)
6. Flash the file to the phone
Done!
I've successfully tested this on my 3210, 6150 and 7110.
Hope this helps..

OK, here's the proof: :D
http://iswitch.ch/misc/f2/MVC-615F.JPG
The value on the SIM is "diAx Swiss" and not "sunrice" (actually it should be "sunrise") :)
And here is an example of a net-search:
http://iswitch.ch/misc/f2/MVC-618F.JPG
sunrice=sunrise
SHITCOM=SWISSCOM (sorry)
Yellow=Orange

Since you guys are very smart in this subject. Here is my problem.
I have a nokia 8290. My phone can recieve operator logos, but can not save them. Actually, its my sim card that is blocking them. because I tried a fido sim, and it worked.
Is there an area of SW that I have to change to allow my op logo to be displayed even if my sim card blocks it? Because I have no way of making my sim card show the logo, i have no clue either.
this way will probaly be easier too.
Thanks

Hi Mr. Irdeto98,
It doesn't work on 3310-557 but still it is great info!
Changing to 0 gave me ... bad faid syptoms.
It keeps rebooting and show only the battery icon and bar, no more.
Changing to 1 gave me lot of void chars.
Changing to 8 gave me NL Telf and then a lot of void chars.
I guess the procedure returns the length of the string in the first byte that is returned.
Byte 2>11h are the chars of the opr name from sim, NL Telfort.
Thanks.
