5165 & Data Cable

I recently got a data cable to go with my 5165 only to find that all I can do with it is basically change the start-up logos. I was wondering if that is all that you can do with these phones. I thought that I would be able to do a few more things with it, I have an F/Mbus cable, so I thought there were a few more thigns to do.
If there are other things that can be done to these phones please let me know, and also what software works with it. Any help would be appreciated.
