Hey everyone...
rookie here...brand new to this whole GSM thing. I just had a few questions that I couldn't find the answers to in the FAQ. I currently have service with AT&T and do not have a GSM phone.
I'm looking to purchase the Nokia 7250i and I know I need a SIM card in order for the phone to work. I saw that there are ones on eBay for around 10-15 bucks. Would I be able to buy one of those, take it to an AT&T store and tell them that I needed to get a GSM phone and I need to get the SIM card activated? Or how does that one work...
thanks...again, i'm brand spanking new to this so please keep the flaming to a minimal...thanks!
We don't get much flaming here :), just don't insult anyone and it seems to be chilled.
I don't really understand what you mean by:

Do you have a SIM card? Or..?
If you could explain that it'd be easier to answer your question :)
Btw, in future try making your subject slightly more to do with the question :)
Cheers
Bob

sorry about that...
I have AT&T TDMA service.
I want to get GSM but I do not have a SIM card. I was thinking about getting one off eBay. So, one of my questions is: If I were to get a SIM Card off eBay, would I be able to go up to the AT&T store and tell them....Hey, I bought a GSM phone, here's the SIM card, can you program it for me? If that's not what I do, what am I supposed to do?
you need to find a provider in your area who uses GSM network, then when you subscribe with them, you will get a SIM. you should find they offer a package including 7250i then you're all set :)
if they dont do that phone, just get any model they do offer and put the sim in your 7250.
you cant put a sim onto a TDMA/CDMA network, its totally different to GSM.

that would require me to have to buy another phone...I wanted to avoid that. my question was would I be able to get AT&T to activate a new SIM card if I do not currently have a GSM account?
like i said

at+t may not have gsm coverage, so how you expect them to register the card?
find a gsm provider, call them.
if they have 7250i in there range of phones, get it.
if not- ask them for sim only..
but usually, the bottom or the range phones come free with your subscription (here anyway..)
dont get sim then try to register it, they dont work that way. you need to get sim from provider.

i guess i still wasn't being clear enough.
I will buy an AT&T sim card from eBay.
I know AT&T offers GSM service because a friend of mine has AT&T GSM. All I wanted to know is will AT&T activate an AT&T Sim Card that has not been activated yet if I do not have a GSM account.
But I guess I can try to get one of their cheap, free phones to get the sim card out of that one...
