I made this little FAQ a while ago on www.smartsoftware.org, maybe this will help some of the n00bs out of trouble!

General tipz:

Extra memory on your 7650?!
It can be done!
Install SeleQ, Handy File or FExplorer, locate the desired file i.e. c:\Nokia\Videos\Video(1), cut it than paste it on the D:\ disk, you have 441Kb of storage space here.
Note that if you turn off your phone all the pasted files will be deleted.

It's possible to edit your soundclips or images date.
Use Space Doubler or Stacker to pack the image/soundclip than at the desired date unpack them and the date will changed to that moment.

How to copy Symbian Programs/Games from 7650 to 7650?
Simply copy all the files in the Folder i.e. C:\Systew\Apps\GeoPod to the other 7650 and make a new Folder in the c:\System\Apps called GeoPod.
Then Copy the .SIS file from the c:\System\Installs folder and send that file and copy this file in the c:\System\Installs
If everything is exactly the same as on the other phone it should work.
I've tried this with Tennis Maniac and it worked though i had to open the game with my file manager(open the .APP file).
After a while the icon appeared in my main menu.

If a program hangs and you can't shut it down just hold the MENU key and a Bar will appear with the opened applications just select the app and press C on the keypad than select yes to kill the application.
It's also a faster way to exit programs.

When in a TEXT mode you can hold # for the numberic mode or for one number hold the number's key.

If you have your Keylock activated just press the On/Off button to turn on your backlight to look at the time when it's dark without having to unlock the keypad or slide.

When recording an conversation while calling, you hear that annoying BEEP, just say your battery is nearly empty or that you have another call. Always works for me.

When you're not alone in bed and you don't want to wake up your girl when you have to goto work just set your Ringvolume as low as possible and select BEEP as Alarm/Calendar tone using EProfiles and put the phone under your pillow.
Doesn't work for the solid sleeper!

If you're sending files to your PC through Bluetooth always change the Filename, if you send an file with the same name it gets overwritten.

Always pair as many Bluetooth devices as possible, it saves time and the receiptent doens't have to accept your connection.
And it always fun to stalk someone with files.

When you use GPRS/WAP and you come across a big page with text, just save the page and read it another time, this saves you alot of money if you use WAP.
It's cheaper to buy an ADAPTER than using GPRS, and you have more options.
Use WAP/GPRS only outdoor when you don't have a PC with Internet nearby, the prices of mobile internet are extremly high, if no one uses the service anymore it might get cheaper!

You can also quick select an menu icon i.e. you have VIDEO RECORDER on the 3th place open your menu and quickly press 3. If you quickly want to open something in a folder just press the numbers or the locations.

You can also retrieve sounds from Games and Programs, just visit C:\System\Apps and select the corresponding folder and look for sound files.
Doesn't work with all games, i.e. GEOPOD has all his sound files built in other data files.

You can also backup save games from Symbian games (.SIS) by sending the .SAV file from the (example) c:\System\Apps\TennisManiac folder to your PC.

You can also do this with JAVA games (.JAR) goto (example) c:\System\Midp\Mr_09 goodliving\Untrusted\Space Taxi\1_090_090 and copy the Rms.db file

Just send them to your PC and send them back if you need them again, when sent you can find them in the C:\System\Mail\00001001_s folder.
This trick is extremly usefull when you're planning a HARD-RESET!

About images:

Resolutions:

Photo:640X480
Background Image:174X130
Operator Logo:97X27
Fullscreen:208X176

You can use the numberic keypad to zoom or rotate.
Use the * for fullscreen, the 5 and 0 for zooming and the 1 & 3 for rotating left or right.

Also another nice fact is that you can scroll between zoomed images.
Just you send your 176X176 images to your 7650 (You can also make screenpics by using FileExplorer, SeleQ & ScreenTaker) save them, zoom an image once and set it to fullscreen, then use the Cstick to switch between them.

You can also add your own Operator Logo without using an program, make a folder in the C:system/apps, name it "Phone" than in this folder make a folder called "Oplogo" in this folder, paste a

picture (resolution 97X25) in it rename it to 204_16_0.JPG, BMP or GIF and restart.

I think every 7650 owner once had this problem; you've (accidently) deleted an image that you wanted to keep but luckely you have it as background, but how to get it back?
Goto C:\System\Data in here you'll should locate the "backgroundimage.mbm" file. Just open and save it.

Making WAV files smaller/louder.

(/)>--.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-+<(/\)>+-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.--<(\)
I always use wav files as ringtones and alarm simply because Polyphonic ringtones are (mostly) terrible and they aren’t loud enough even if you use MidiEd.
But the advantage of an MIDI is that it is a lot smaller than a regular WAV and if you own a 7650 you’d know that every byte is precious and that’s why i found a way to make WAVs smaller.

Simply play a Music CD in your CD-Rom player and goto the standard windows recorder found in the “Startmenu-Accesoires-Entertainment”.

Now when you’re done recording, select “save as” and then select the map where you want to save it to, type in the file’s name, but don’t save it instead click on Change (i’ve got the Dutch version of win so the name could be different but there are three buttons, click the one at the bottom of the window).

In here you can select the Quality of the files, click on the Classification(maybey diff.) scroll bar and select GSM instead of PCM and then go to the other scrollbar underneath and select the quality you’d like.
Then select save as type in a name and click OK the again click OK.

Now you can save you Wav and send them to your phone.
With this simple trick you can make you’re WAVs alot smaller, but the smaller you make em’ the lesser quality you get.

(You can also make WAVs louder, click EFFECTS and select Increase Volume 25%, but yoy probebly knew that already...)

(\)>--.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-+<(\/)>+-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.--<(/)

Applications every 7650 owner must have:

(/)>--.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-+<(/\)>+-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.--<(\)

Task Manager;
Can add everything to favorites and you can use the C stick in the Standby mode as a shortcut key!
For Up ,Down ,Left and Right you can set to all Installed Apps just like the two softkeys.
You also get World Clock and Efile free with it.
Uninstall Efile this is a totally useless app.
Keep World Clock it's a great app!

Eprofiles:
A must have, everything you couldn't do with the standard Profiles you can do here!
Get 3 Extra Colour Palettes, can select every tone as Alarm/Calander tone so no emberassing bleeps anymore, Auto keylock and many more.
Memory cost: 56 Kb + Alarm Enhancer:11 Kb + PsiNT Elib:45 Kb and PsiNT Helper:6 Kb total:118

Hip Cam:
You can select the Quality,Resolution,Sound On/Off and Size of the Video.
Note that you can't view your taken video's with it!
I've read somewhere that the new version will play the taken Videos.

System Tools:
Has a "Flight" Mode, with this mode you can safely use your 7650 in Planes or Hospitals.
Compresses your RAM Memory and makes Operator Logos.

Bemused:
Very nice App, you can control WINAMP with this, and you can request any file from your PC to your 7650 right from your Couch/Bed/Chair/Toilet/Garden.

Handyfile:
Best Filemanager for the S60.
You can set shortcuts,i.e. press 1 and you'll be on the D:\ press 2 and you'll be in the Video folder.
Behind everyfile the size is displayed, shows hidden files and you can Mark files so you can send more that one file at a time.
Memory cost:127 Kb
SeleQ: 365Kb

Stacker/Space Doubler:
I prefer Stacker, though i've had problems with the app,but it's still better than Space Doubler and a lot less buggy, when i had Space Doubler installed all i got was errors!
Go for Stacker.
Stacker Memory cost:129 Kb

IrRemote:
Don't have to explain this, JUST BUY IT!

SmartAnswer:
A nice "free" Voicemail app.
Normally Listening to your Voicemail cost you money with this app it doesn't.
You can use WAV & AMR files as voicemail message, and you set the max Message lenght and pick up time.
Save you alot of that o so precious money.
Memory cost:98 Kb

ScreenSaver:
Get rid of that lame standard screensaver and add a new dimension to your 7650!
You can set a slideshow of pictures(i advise them to make them 208X176), an Animated GIF (i have some full screen GIFs ,ask me), Warpspace style , An Explosion(very slow) and one BIG digital CLOCK, a small analog/digital clock floating over the screen or a Long text.
To save battery delete all GIFs on your phone and set the screensaver to "animation" and the screen will be completely white.
Memory Cost:56 Kb + PsiNT Elib:45 Kb and PsiNT Helper:6 Kb total: 107 Kb

CamTimer:
Can set any time to make a Photo.
Handy when you are on vacation or with family.
Memory cost:13 Kb

How do I install software?
There are many ways to install software,

First you have to transfer the file to your phone via Bluetooth, IR or Email.
You will then receive a message containing the file as an attachment.
Highlight the attachment you want to install, bring up the options list, and select install.

The file will then be saved to your phone's memory. Ensure you delete the original
message once it is installed on your phone, as this will consume memory.

When installing a SIS file, as long as PC Suite is installed on your PC and the phone is connected trough BT or Ir , just double click
on the SIS and the PC installs the program on the Phone, without having to send it to the phone first. This is a good way to install software if the memory is nearly full.

To find out the IMEI number of your handset, type the following
at the main screen: *#06#
Your IMEI number may be needed when purchasing software for your phone,
as some companies use it to generate a specific registration code.

Whats is the difference between a Soft & Hard reset and how do I do it?
A Soft-reset - the process of resetting all the settings of the phone to the factory default!
No applications are deleted! A Hard-reset is like formatting a drive! It does format the memory.
Everything that has been installed after the first use of the phone is deleted! It will recover the
memory of the phone to the state you purchased it! It is done by inputing the following code: *#7370#

NOTE: The battery must be full or the charger has to be connected to the phone so that it
does not run out of power and make the phone unusable. A good idea is first to uninstall all
applications manually!

How to clear SMS reports?
SMS reports are kept in Log. They expire and vanish automatically after the number of days set in Settings
-> Log duration. If you want to remove all SMS reports, you will have to clear the entire log. This will also
clear all incoming/outgoing/missed calls lists.

Quick access to applications
You can customize both function keys located below the screen. This can be done in Menu -> Tools ->
Settings -> Phone -> Standby mode -> Left/right selection key. Selected applications will be assigned
to function buttons in standby mode (on Phone screen).

Besides that there are also two other applications which can be quickly launched in standby mode:

press joystick to open Contacts base

press and hold "0" (zero) key to launch WAP browser.
Can I copy & paste text in Nokia 7650/3650?
Yes.

Simply press and hold ABC key and select your text using joystick. Left function key will change to
"Copy". Press it to copy the selected text to clipboard.

You can paste the clipboard contents the same way: press and hold ABC. "Paste" will appear above
the right function key.

Problems with sending files from 7650 to PC via BT
The following tip can be useful for people using Bluetooth hardware (cards, dongles) equipped with
Widcomm software (MSI, TDK etc).

If you cannot send files from your Nokia to PC, you may want to try the following tip:

Open your Windows registry in Registry editor: Menu Start -> Run -> Regedit

locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Services\0004 key

locate AcceptOther entry

change its value from 0 to 1

reboot your computer.
First name, Last name?
As you may have noticed, the First and Last name are displayed the "wrong" way round in the Contacts list.
Basically there is no option to switch them back round, so you must do one of the following:

Download a little freebie program that switches the fields round Name swap or simply enter the first name
in the last name field and vice versa. Not a prefect solution, but until Nokia release a software upgrade,
I think we are stuck with it.

F.A.Q. : Ringtones via WAP
You can download polyphonic ringtones directly to your phone using WAP browser. Visit our WAP pages
(wap.My-Symbian.com) to download some and check how it works. When you select a ringtone it will be
downloaded and automatically opened in Recorder...

Can I use my own polyphonic ringtones?
One of the beauties of this phone is the fact it supports multiple audio extensions. One of these is the
MIDI format. MIDI has been around for years and there are loads of sites on the Internet that have
full pop and chart music in good quality MIDI format, which is, best of all, mostly free. So ignore these
sites that want to charge you money for a ringtone. Probably the best MIDI site is http://www.mididb.com.

Send your MIDI file from PC to 7650/3650 via Bluetooth or infrared. If your PC doesn't support BT or IR,
you can send it to the phone by email. Open the message on your Nokia - the attached MIDI file will be
automatically opened in Recorder. Save it and go to Profiles, where you can set it as a default ringtone.

How can I upgrade my firmware?
Firmware can be upgrade by visiting a Nokia Service Center in person (although prior arrangement is advisable).
However the recommended procedure is contacting your local Nokia Service Center / Dealer / Shop by phone.
They should be able to advise you to which course of action you should take.

The procedure varies from country to country, but usually the phone is sent away by post, upgraded and then
returned. The time taken also varies from country to country - there are reports of several weeks wait in some
European countries while in the UK a period of 2-4 working days is the norm.

You can find out contact details for your local center by visiting your country's Nokia website. There is a drop
down menu on the font page of the main Nokia site listing these (http://www.nokia.com).
