my sister gave me a phone. i went over to the cingular store and asked them if they could unlock the phone and they said it wouldn't work because of the frequencies because it was a t-mobile phone. i am asking is this correct it wont work because of the two carriers and the frequencies?

3390 is a single-band phone, works with GSM 1900MHz frequency, the frequency that is being used by most (if not all) u.s networks.

theoretically, what they told you could be true, but i've seen that cingular and t-mobile both use the 1900 MHz frequency, so there is not supposed to be a problem.

i think it's strange, because cingular do have interest in getting new costumers, especially if they come from another operators. in my opinion, the guy you talked with in cingular didn't know what he was talking about.

i suggest you call them again, and if they say the same - ask for more details.

he supposely went to talk to someone and said that. i also called customer support and they said some phone they can unlock so i am probably going to go buy a data cable for it then unlocking it my self.

Yes, apparently that guy didnt know anything. Their retail employees are only trained on what they sell. Actually, they are taught to say no so that you would sign up for a new plan with a contract and a new phone. But it is possible. You just need to unlock the phone. Ive unlocked very many tmobile phones and used them on boh Cingular and ATT GSM.

Cingular an t-mobile use the same freq. and actually share part of the network or cell-sites

So thath 3390 should have no problem.

Yes, alberto_fiol is right. They do share the same cell site. Also i can provide full unlocking and upgrade services for all of Northern California.

i live in new york and on ebay i just bought a serial cable, car charger, and holster for it for 5.00 and 5.99 shipping so that is not bad price for all three.
