Has anyone connected using a Dial up Connection with their phone via bluetooth yet?

I tried setting it up, and the computer dials the phone number through the phone, but after awhile it disconnects... I dont know why...

Has anyone been succesful?

Do you want to be able to use your data services (GPRS) and bluetooth so you can use your pc's browser or are you trying to actually connect to another pc?

If you want the first........

1) Open up my bluetooth places and right click on the dial up networking links. Then select properties.

2) Click the "Configure" button next to the drop down box that only has BluetoothConnection in it.

3) Select "Bluetooth Modem" on whatever com port out of the "Connect Using:" dialog box.

4) Under that dialog, you'll see a place for phone number, USE *99***1# for the phone number and click ok and ok again and double click the connection to initiate the connection.

5) don't worry about the username or password, leave them blank. Click connect and you should be off.

what does this number do? *99***1#
when you connect with it.. does it charge your phone account as internet transfers.. or regular phone call?

This is quoted at another forum:

"*9*** indicates the phone should dial GPRS, while 1 i suppose to be the APN (Access Point Number?) it can varry from phone to phone..."

It will go against your GPRS data plan so yes, it will incur a charge as long as you are online. If you can, the unlimited T-Mobile Data plan for $20 isn't bad.... It is actually a little faster than dialup.

actually i have looked it up in the AT COMMAND SET FOR NOKIA GSM PRODUCTS (this is a pdf you can download at www.forum.nokia.com)

*99[*[<called_address>][*[<L2P>][*[<cid>]]]]#

[] means its optional

dunno what the first two variables are, but the last one is supposed to be your internal APN number.

I have tried various combinations, but only a 1 will initiate a connection, another number and it fails. A 1 is probably the default APN anyway, so you can leave everything out and end with a # (could be that my firmware is faulty and it will work newer revisions)

Anyway what i did was under GPRS settings on the phone you can enter an access point, a string that refers to the internet gate of your GPRS provider (in my case internet.proximus.be), then just dial *99# on your laptop will initiate the connection with the provider, and i must warn that conventional browsers such as iexplorer consume a lot more traffic then doris :P¨so be carefull...

oh, and don't forget to disable auto-downloading of updates of both XP and your virusscanner... you may be in a surprise when you receive the bill :P :P :P
