Hi,
I've been catching up on my reading on the whole flashing happening and I have some questions about the files.
I read Chunkhead's guide on flashing but I don't really knwo which files I have.
I downloaded them from the download section here under
8210 - 531 but the extentions are all .fls
could someone enlighten me with some more info on this all?
Which files are which and also for dutch language, which files do I need?
I'm new to this but learning fast
thanks a heap in advance.

The MCU should be named 8210mcu531.zip. This is arrived at by firstly, phone model ie. 8210, then mcu, then 531 as the version of the software ie. v.5.31.
The PPM (which includes language translations, character sets, ring tones and operator names) is named A.zip, B.zip etc. depending on which language pack you want. I have read that Dutch is language pack C. I obtained this info from here:
http://www.gsm.div.pl/ppmpacks.pdf
Then there is the eeprom - this file is named 8210_ee$2BPMM.zip from the download section.
Not quite sure what the MCU contains but generally MCU and PPM go hand in hand. Eeprom gets flashed separately and only if necessary.
You also have the option of flashing a full back up (which contains MCU, PPM and Eeprom all in one file). I do believe that the MCU, PPM and Eeprom files need to be compatible for them to work. If the ones you have aren't compatible, a full backup file is your best option. Full backup files are available from here:
http://www.nokia-flash.tk
I just went to that site and they've got technical probs but keep trying - it's worth it to get a full backup (known as fubu's).
Hope this helps and PLEASE someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers

thanks a lot for the reply
it's a lot of usefull info there :)
just another little question: when do I need to flash th eeprom?
If there is a problem or also when just upgrading the firmware of the phone.
Is it ok to just flash my phone with the mcu and ppm from the downloads?
Thanks again

Just update the eeprom when there is a problem with your software. No need to flash the eeprom when you just want to upgrade. Yes, it's fine just to flash MCU & PPM alone. But don't forget that once you've flashed your phone, that you get the MBUS cable and updated FAID, Clear service provider locks (if any), reset IMEI and do a factory reset, otherwise you may not get a network.
Let me know how you go. Are you flashing a phone at the moment?

Thanks for the help,
I'm flashing my 8210 and 3210 now, both have problems
flashed them both yesterday but problem remains :(
Flashing the eeprom, can this harm my phone
if anything goes wrong in the flashing process (mcu, ppm or eeprom), is it always fixable or can a phone be severely damaged by wrong flashing?

I don't think you can do too much damage. I had an 8210 which I flashed ALOT of different files to. Just make sure that you are flashing the right file to match your model ie. 8210 flash file for your 8210 phone. Pretty simple stuff. I have interrupted a flashing process many times and also my computer has hung in the middle of flashing so I would say it's pretty safe as long as you remember to flash the right model number (ie. 8210) to your 8210 phone. Also make sure that you have chosen your model number in the flashing software (ie. in Knok Phoenix, choose your model as 8210 in the drop down menu).
Your safest bet would be a full backup file from http://www.nokia-flash.tk I have flashed an 8210 full backup (version 5.31) and it was fine. I flashed the full backup file using Knok XP (Knok Phoenix specifically for Windows XP).
Try it and see how you go.

ahh, finally one of them is ok now :)
my 8210 works, it was the screen (which I replaced 2 times, new lcd's were also faulty)
I now succesfully flashed both phones.
I learned alot from this thread.
Thanks a heap for helping me out here.
