First, sorry my english,iīm not an english boy!I wrote this thread, because there are many people, who canīt set their cable into action.
These are te experiences from my 2 week long nervousness:
When i finished my own cable using that simple schematics with 74HC14 IC,i was so happy.I tried it out on my slower/older computer.it didnīt work.I took it to friends, still with no luck.Checked all the parts of the circuit, that was OK.Whatīs the matter?-I thought.I guy from the web(you all know him-but i donīt tell you!) wrote me,how to check the LPT port is OK:- disconnect flasher cable.
- locate on pc LPT pin11
- when sw asks to "press power on",connect this pin to GND(or pc to case)
If flasher sw have no reaction, this mean ,that here are lpt port problem /or malfunction/.In this case try to test port with other cables(printer, norton link cable ...etc) or install new ISA,PCI board with lpt port.
If has reaction, try to connect external power +4...5V to 74HC14(inside cable) pin14,because port sometimes doesnīt supply enough power
I made it all.It has no reaction. When the first week passed,i got an idea from my good friend,my brain :-) :Inside the computer, where the LPT ports cable is connecting to the motherboard,i pulled out the cable and turned about(180 degrees). It has reaction, but my flasher cable still didnīt work.In the 2nd week i was going to buy a new flasher cable from id2.cz .I told myself:Lets try it last time! The connector between flasher cable and phone was from a factory made F/M bus cable. The connections to the phones pins have springs, but one of these didnīt spring.I thought it canīt be the problem and there is contact, but i mistook(F/M bus doesnīt need all the 4 connections, but flasher cable needs)!I repaired it,connected to LPT and phone, launch program, clicked to Read,and...Hej:Itīs a wonder! The percents were going up!!Fortunately i didnīt purchase original flasher cable(itīs expensive)!
and i donīt need any external power!
So,these are the steps if cable donīt works:
1.check the LPT port is OK(pin11 to GND)
2.if no,try to turn about the cable inside the computer.if itīs OK,check cables,connections,reconnect cable,clean the contacts.Be attentive!
3.If still doesnīt work, connect external power.
4.If still doesnīt work, try on friends computer.
5.If works, throw your(not friends!) computer out the window :-) .If doesnīt work, make the same way with cable!
Phone must be switched off!Try to remove SIM card from phone!
If you something donīt understand from my language, post reply!
I hope i helped a lot!If helped,please let me know!!
Here are 2 pictures:schematics and where to connect external power!

Wow, very indepth guide to checking your cable/computer :)

I may have to "borrow" this for the FAQ, with permission?

Hey Tracid, what's the deal? Bobl asked you politely for use of your guide in order to help everybody else! The Forum FAQ is a integral part of the New NokiaFREE! Many of the veterans, including myself, have spent hours sharing and pooling our knowledge together for the greater good of the community! Why do you want to be a unhelpful member of the forum? I'm sure many others have helped you along the way! Why did you post it in the first place? You will be given the credit, only it will be displayed in the Forum FAQ!:( :)

I agree with the others, I asked politely, you refused.

But why post in the first place? I guess we just have to delete this thread from the forum if you don't want people reading it? But why did you post it if you don't want people reading it?

I find that very confusing...

Well...please reply :)

Cheers

Bob

Hmm...How to tell you my thoughts in english(beginner in english!)?
Now iīm feeling so sad,coz you all misunderstand me,..
You are right,i have thinking about this TOO!Give it to FAQ-first i wanted to make thread there, but couldnīt(do you know why?),and this reason i posted here!I thought bobl wanted to create thread as his own work!PARDON BOBL,we all make mistakes!!
I donīt want to be unhelpful,i want to help as i can(then why made this thread?)!!
So bobl,Come On!!I would like to see this in the FAQ!!!!!

Tell me if iīm a dummy, but what does it means:post in the first place?
Really good work?Iīm a new member, this is my first work.I must to learn a lot...

Now this is embarrasing...I did reply but the server was kicking up problems, so I left it meaning to come back...and never did.

Apologies for any offence caused, not intentional.

Right, the FAQ as far as I'm concerned is open to free posting, you may post so long as you've spell checked it, and follow the title format:

FAQ: <Clear question>

Etc.

I'll edit/delete anything that doesn't follow it :)

Cheers
