I have recently bought a new flash - PS2 cable. I have tried flashing a 3310 with it under Windows ME with numerous versions of Rolis and knok95 but i keep getting the message:
preloader boot error.check:
-mobile choose
-cable and contacts
-cable supply
I have since tried flashing another phone (5110), using another machine (Win98) and I have thoroughly checked the cable against schematics, and tested the phone adapters with a meter. Every peice of hardware seems fine, and my BIOS LPT port is set as ECP. I want to be able to flash but can't figure out what the problem is, so all help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Luke

i think the problem is that you are using windows me operation system...
try flashing the same phone with the same cable and software in a computer with windows 9x (or maybe also xp with userport installed will work).

I have tried Windows 98 but still to no avail. I've just realised that when I said I had tried Win98 it got converted to a smiley, sorry.
I have had one idea though: Could it be that the adapters I am using (PS2 to Phone) were made for M/FBUS cables? I didn't think they were any different and there are four wires inside (Connected to RX, TX, MBUS and GND) but after scouring the forum for the 3rd time I am beginning to wonder about the remaining BTEMP and VPP?

In Rolis, change the LPT port to port 2 (LPT2)! I know that you only have one port, but try it!!! Mine works only on 2!;)

I'm afraid it still isn't working. I tried using LPT2 but then it just keeps saying "Power off phone and then connect"
I have found out that in Rolis Flasher 5.14 I don't get an error message but the app gets just as far as the other versions did:
Wait for boot counter accept(TX=High)
What version of Rolis are you using? I run Windows M.E. and rolis ver 4.78 works with my 3310's as does Nokia Tool by Rolis ver 1.8 for unlocking, it may be a bug in the version you are using.

I tend to use Rolis 4.78b6 but I have tried versions 4.71, 4.77, 4.79 and 5.14.
I can use Nokia Tool 1.8 and 1.9 with an M/FBUS cable without any problems and so far the only common factor is my flash cable. Is there a way I can test the IC to see if that is the problem?
You could try this to see in the cable is working properly.Link Test (http://www.rddirect.btinternet.co.uk/LMLinkTest.zip)

First off thanks Yotamz, chunkhead and Dace for replying. :D
I took another look at the cable and despite the fact that I paid £8.95 for it ($14.24 or €12.77), pins 2 and 3 of the 74HC14 Schmitt Inverter IC were physically soldered together right near the top of the legs!
Anyway I cut the solder and now I can flash my phone! I've tried both 3315 Smarkies and 3310 7-bars flashes by which I can safely say that it was well worth the wait ;)
Thanks again
Luke

@ Figure 9
Why did you post in this thread??? Yes it can, but you need DCT-4 cables! Please use the search engine!;)
@ Dr. Watson,
Glad you got it sorted, so much for profesional factory build eh :)
Hope it was just a one off, accidents happen etc.
