DCT3: Altering nokia menu graphics and LED Fading (using Griffin)
By: Niklas Bivald, The_deViL, [email protected]
First of all I would like to clear that I am no expert of any kind. I am new to the Griffin Box, recived mine for a week or two ago. This is just things I've come up with so far. Knowledge wants to be free right?
This tutorial is for beginners with only limited knowledge in Griffin. Hopefully this helps someone, let me know what you think...
The software I've used, I will assume you got them.
- Griffin (2.02)
If you need a description for this please read the Installation PDF.
- NFader (1.4)
Fading leds (like the once on 8310) for DCT3
- Nokia DCT3 Flash Converter (0.0.1)
Convert MCU+PPM to flash, and vice verse. This is because NokHex and such runs on *.fls
- NokHex (1.03)
NokHex is used to change the menu bitmaps, very good and easy to use.
- Working MCU+PPM
Make sure, 110% and then check it again that the MCU+PPM is working. Then duplicate the file incase you screw up.
Thanks to.

I'm using an old 5110 to play on.
Everything will be done in totally three steps:
1. Convert MCU+PPM to .fls file
2. Mess up that .fls file (It is here we actually change graphics and add fader)
3. Convert back to MCU+PPM and then flash to the phone.
Let's get started...
Converting MCU+PPM to .fls
1. Open Nokia DCT3 Flash Converter (nasNFConverter DCT3.exe)
2. Make sure the two checkboxes marked "auto" is checked and also "check MCU matches PPM".
3. Press [...] to choose MCU file, then do the same for the PPM file. Click "Convert to FLS/Dejan". Everything should go as planed and you will now have a .fls file to play with.
4. Make a copy of that .fls file. Actually, make two. In case
Fading your LEDS
Fading LEDS is a rather cool effect to have on a DCT3 phone, and it's really easy to do.
1. Open NFader
2. Choose if you want Fade On and/or Fade off
3. Make sure you click "update CS"
4. If you want you can play with the Fade on/off time which is the fading time in HEX.
5. Click "Select File" and choose your .fls file
6. Click apply and you'r done, close the software.
Altering menu graphics
1. Open NokHex
2. File > Option, choose your flash file.
3. Options > Auto Pic
4. Now it is time to actually change your graphics, To the (down) right you got a drop-down box named "Menu". Choose what graphic to edit their. Then choose in the dropdown box below the number of the picture. You will note that the image has changed to your selected image. Just play around with is as much as you
like and then click "PIC To HEX".
5. When you're done playing around click "Correct MCU Checksum" and then Save To File.
6. Close NokHex
Converting back to MCU+PPM
1. Open Nokia DCT3 Flash Converter (nasNFConverter DCT3.exe) and click the tab marked "Analyse FLS/Dejan INFO"
2. Open your .fls file there (use the [...] button)
3. Click Analyze
4. Click "Fix all Checksums"
5. Click the FLS/Dejan tab
6. Open your .fls file by pressing on the first [...] button.
7. Click Convert to WinTesla
8. Close Nokia DCT3 Flash Converter
Your MCU+PPM is now done. Just launch Griffin and flash your phone and it (Should work). If it doesn't you will know for sure the meaning of backups. This tutorial was very short and basic, but maybe it helped someone.
That's all for this time, just some very basics.
However I will write a tutorial on G3n0lite when I understand it better.
