Help for a Newb 3330

Hi firstly ide like to say i have used search, but i didnt find exactly what i was looking for and i dont want to risk things.

Ok ive got this phone and its T Mobile (UK) but my proper sim card is virgin (UK) ive bought myself a data cable and that should arrive in a few days.

Ok so heres the questions
1. What kind of things can i do with the data cable and the software out there?
2. What is the software out there, and is there trialware or shareware etc or do i have to buy them?
3. Ide like to unlock my phone but im scared of braking it :( but i think ide rather use a program to unlock it as itl be less risk.
4. Do you have any other words or advice etc that you can give me?

The FAQ does cover most of this...it's got some unlocking guides in it and some answers to your questions :)

But briefly, a data cable is used for uploading op logos/start up logos/ringtones.

Most programs for the above is not free, you can either buy it or break the law. Your choice.

As for unlocking your phone, it's unlikely that you'll damage your phone if you follow the guides in the forum. However, there is always a risk, you must be prepared to accept the consequences even if you follow the guides to the letter, you MAY lose a phone.

Though I'll point out that from personal experience, nothing has ever happened to my phones.

But could you please give me more suggestions on things you have done to phones of this model, or cools things you know that can be done etc?

and is there any free tools out there to do all of this with?

edit also whats the t mobile network code? as i was trying to find it earlier but i couldnt find it.

Ok ive been reading loads of stuff on this forum and i know what flashin is now,
Will may cable that i bought of ebay be able to be used on flashing?

Well if you want want to be different, upgrade your phone to the 3350! You will need to buy a 3410 screen and fit it to your phone (Easy) then flash a 3350 file to the phone! You can use the 3410 covers, but in England, nobody will have your phone! It's only available in Asia and Australia!

Note: The cable you bought is only a data cable! You will need a flasher cable (LPT)! Search the net! I recommend m-99.co.uk!

Ok so if i buy this screen will my phone have a colour screen?
2. will i only have to replace the screen and the cover? i.e. will the power bit on the bottom still be the same etc.
3. is there a tutorial for this anywhere? as it wont just be a case of screwing a few screws for me, as i will have to take the other phoen apart.

3330 is your base phone.

You can unlock it with Rolis NokTool 1.9 and a cable.

You do not need the network code of T-Mobile for this (It's 23430, 23432 or 23433, I think, T-Mobile has three codes). But you don't need this.

To upload ringtones and logos to your phone, use Logomanager or Oxygen Phone Manager (Both shareware, you will need to buy them).

To flash your phone and upgrade it, you will need a flash cable. You can upgrade it to the 3350, with a new LCD screen. (No, this will be B&W)

To modify it, you still need a flash cable. Then you need to sit and learn and read through all back posts about flash modification etc. It's fairly simple but you need to learn it :)

Ok thanks. So basicaly there dosent seem to be much point in changing my LCD screen because all im gona get is a slightly different look?
I did check the nokia site and the phones seem very similiar.

On the other things you said. I have Oxygen 2, and ive got my data cable on the way. So ill unlock my phone when that comes.

It works fine under XP, use compatibilty mode. Tried using the search function for your answers :)?

The 3350 is a high resolution phone! It has many features the 3330 doesn't including Full screen animated screensavers, auto keylock, rhythmic backlight alert, etc.! But as Bobl said, get used to flashing your 3330 first, then upgrade! But I can't recommend the upgrade highly enough!
