does anyone know if an older phone such as a dct3 has the correct hardware to achieve this function and would it be possible to flash a phone to do this?

I dont think any DCT3's support donwloadable java applications but I suppose you could modify the firmware to emit a ridiculously high-pitched tone out of the ringer (or write a java app for DCT4 phones to do the same)

1) some people (e.g. me) can hear it
2) if you cant, get a sound meter that can
3) throw a mosquito at it :D

The 3410 does
This sounds a clever idea, but as to it's effectiveness...hmmm.
I guess you could program a java program to play just one note continuously until exit, though this would eat the battery surely?
Or you could turn your old (broken) dct3 phone into one by writing your own flash.
I think the hardest part would be finding the frequency that you'd have to play...
Cheers
