i don't know why, but nokia decided to make two version of the 6800 phone:

-U.S version - works with gsm 850/1900 frequency.
-European version - works with gsm 900/1800 frequency.

the reason for the phone not connecting to a network is not that it is locked, but it doesn't support the frequency in u.k.

the only thing you can do now is to replace the phone with a local 6800 that supports the local frequency (GSM 900/1800).

Hello :)

I replied to two threads just like this one.... does someone copy here?

The 6800 (american!) is dual band, 850 and 1900 MHz GSM
The 6800 (non-american!) is dual band, 900 and 1800 MHz GSM

That is a hardware issue, to change it, you need to replace the phone's PCB and thus.. the phone itself :)

Under no circumstances you can use it in the UK. Sell it on E-Bay and buy a non-american vcersion there, too... or swap with someone in the U.S.A. who happens to have a non-american version which is same useless for him/her........

Kind regards....
