Nokia 6510 reboots when entering security code

I have been given a 6510 that has a security code on.
When entering any 5 digit number the phone looks asif it is rebooting itself and comes back asking for security code.

Not looking good for the phone.

Has anyone come across this before?

might need flashing with the latest software as it sounds like a software error. i don't think its hardware
