You mean the EFR and Hfr rates these can be activated by entering the codes *3370# to activate full rate (better signal) #3370# to cancel and for better battery performance enter *4270# and #4270# to cancel.

Sometimes it can make a big difference and othertimes jack#@*$

i have a 8390, will these codes work as well? I would also like to know how to go about getting my 8390 unlocked from ATTWS. Thanks!

should work on your 8390, although you will probably mbe presented with "change speech codec?" as a message on the screen, but just select yes and ignore the message.

Have experienced the same!
With EFR turned on it may be impossible to recieve or make calls when you are far away from the link. But you will improve the sound quality when turning on EFR...
Think it is because the phone doesnt accept so much time delay when having a greater bitrate. You can have full signal strenght without beeing able to make calls, but if you turn off EFR you are able to make a call.

Anyone have a better explanation???
(Could have been better formulated though...)
