What does the security code do?

First off, I would like to say thank you very much to "browntoa" for giving me the unlock code. Second of all, I was wondering, what does the unlock code actually do? How do I use it? What is the purpose of it? How do I use it to the fullest?

the unlock code removes the service provider lock...as they normally pay a subsidy on the handset they want to keep you as a customer by locking the phone.Once that lock is removed you can put in a sim card from any service provider !!

the security code is something else..
