View Full Version : American 6800 won't work in UK??

Bought an AT&T Nokia 6800 from the states on Ebay and unlocked it this morning but it won't read any UK or Europe sims??? I have been told that this is a dual band phone and will only read American single band widht of 1900 MHZ - Uk , asia and europe work on dual band of 800 and 1800 I think - is there anything that can be done to make my phone work or am I snookered?

Yep thats right it a USA GSM dual band which is 800Mhz/1900Mhz where as the UK GSM is 900Mhz/1800Mhz

so sell it on ebay or flash it with a griffin and upload the european PM file to it and see what happens.

What does "flashing it with a griffin do and how do I do this etc"

Flashing it won't help, the hardware in yanky phones is diffrent, the antenna is tuned to diffrent frequencys.

It would be like trying to get radio five live on the fm band. you would need to change the hardware in the phone.

As I said you have to change the hardware! But I didn't say I knew how.

Just flashing it won't help

wrong.

the only result will be a messed up phone...not working on 800 and 1900 neither 900/1800. and if no back-up or original PMM settings were made....no possibility to repair also.


there are hardware differences between european and north american version.

sollution?

use it only in states....nothing more to do.
next time buy a triband phone.
